Should We Bring Them Home?

There is a growing movement these days to "bring home" the U.S. troops in Iraq. My opinion on this is split:
On one hand, Iraq has become a veritable shooting gallery for terrorists from across the Middle East to score a couple head shots on U.S. troops. Hundreds are dying, and all Bush can say is "Bring 'em on." No progress is being made in forcing democracy to blossom across the Fertile Crescent, and I've got 1 to 10,000,000 odds that we're not going to find any WMDs in the country. So why not bring our soldiers back home?
Afghanistan, the 1980s. The United States joined forces with an Islamic student organization known as the Taliban to create a guerilla war for the Soviet Union, in an attempt to give the "Evil Empire" their own Vietnam. We supplied the Taliban with the necessary weapons and manpower to blow their country into one big smoking crater. After the Russkies retreated, the United States got their asses out of that country, leaving the Afghani people with no food, water, or healthcare to speak of. They called it "The Great Betrayal". This created an environment of anti-Americanism that allowed Osama bin Laden to set up his Al-Queda training camps in that country, which in turn led to September 11th, and finally, Gulf War II. Here we are now, in the same situation.
Should we abandon Iraq, or is it our responsibility to rebuild the country after blowing the shit out of it? It's a complicated decision, and the main reason I was against the war in the first place.
I think the US government should bring its troops home and keep them there unless they want to piss off more militant groups/countries.

yes, that policy really puzzles me (inciting violence on both sides)
and I've got 1 to 10,000,000 odds that we're not going to find any WMDs in the country.
shame more ppl didn't place bets on it before the war, then the "known odds" would have told the public a lot more than was filtered thru the White House by "military intelligence"
So why not bring our soldiers back home?
fastest way out of a war zone is in a body bag (they'll bring them home 1 way or the other) America wants more "Heros"

true it would be nice to bring them home... but this isnt an easy decision...
what will happen is if the troops come home is the mideast will have a power vaccuum... that will give iran and saudi arabia a chance to grow in strength... now Iraq has a 60% shia muslim population (iran is a shia majority also) some of that population want a govt that is set up exactly as Iran's govt... if that happens iran and iraq will then form a very powerful coalition together... and that is against the US vital interest... (read up on traditional theory in international relations) this coalition in the mideast/persia would give them a huge supply of oil, people, and land... and if Iran-Iraq will be against the US it will hurt the US economy... (oil companies will lose their contracts and it will be given to european nations or worse yet... russia...) that happens now saudi arabia has to deal with an iran-iraq powerhouse... and now saudi arabia is threatened by this... they will need to defend themselves WITH guess... nukes...
if saudi arabia is getting nukes iran-iraq will need nukes... if they have nukes israel will freak out...
and if you think the mid-east is bad now give iran, iraq and saudi arabia nukes...

Fuck that, America isnt going anywhere, you started this shit, you finish it
You cant just charge in, fuck up a country...realise you were wrong, and the price is to high and just leave the country in ruins
If the troops are pulled out then this will be a new low note in the history of America

Yep, but it would be a lower note....since people actually care about Iraq.

They care enough to bomb the fuck out of it. But really I doubt the U.S. will leave without someone taking proper control of the oil (it will probably end up being the U.S. anyway). And thats about all they care about, its not the government or the peoples well being, it's the oil that the U.S. needs.

I stand by everything TheTio just said. You go in and you only go out when the Iraquis have a democratic election.

The way I see it , you started it , you better fucking finish it . Your plan was to liberate and rebuild iraq? Well rebuild it then. I've heard some pretty dodgy things about Afghanistan , so try to make a good job of this one. The troops seem to still be needed as a police force , so no , leave them there (or at least have some soldiers there) until Iraq is able to fully function by itself.
