If I remember correctly, the Hindenburg was electrically charged from a lightning storm. When they moored in, all the electricity from in the covering sparked over to the metal girders holding everything in place. There was one pocket filled with hydrogen that was ripped open and, well, sparks and hydrogen don't mix. Somehow the canvas was involved, but I can't seem to remember how.
