he might be right too, i mean i got into art to one day make anime but one thing led to another and now i paint. i just mean that you should explore more options, maybe you might like something else? if not than just keep at it man.
You're TOO much of a wannabe artist. You're trying TOO hard. Practice more, take as much time as possible.
As much as I hate to say it....
While drawing anime is fun ( Probably how I got into drawing ), realistic drawings are what you want to do. If you spend too long doing cartoons, it makes everything else harder. Realistic stuff makes it easier. You get a better sense of proportion and movement, as well as other things like colour and shadow. You can simply watch people talking or walking, and pay attention to their muscles, how they move and the way the body is shaped and the way the light falls. All of this will help you ( It helped me, at least ) draw more anatomically correct, and therefore more attractive/ detailed, characters.
hey guys guys, as much as we are entitled to our opinions, lets not tell him what to do. if he wants to do anime leave him alone
Hate is the only true consistent construct that makes up the world.

yea, lets leave everyone looking for advice and help alone. that would solve everything.

There isn't anything wrong with anime, but messing around with other styles would improve the quality of that anime if one were to continue with it.
I think there is something wrong with anime...Starting with it anyway, I mean, you blow in, not understanding what you are drawing, you are just following crappy little rules about facial features positions, arm length having to do with heads, crap like that... As I said before, anime is not my cup of tea, but I am aware of it as an art form, just not my choice, however, I am interested in helping, so take this to heart...you will become a far better artist, better in every possible way, if you learn everything about the body...bones, muscles, the way the skin folds, as well as perspective, foreshortening, everything like that, before you touch anime...
Anime is an art form when the artist understands what it extends from...in essence, it is taking the way the human looks, tweaking a few things to make it "anime" style....but you have to know what it started as...Any "how to" book on anime doesn't tell you this...and besides, when you are going through and discovering all of this information for yourself (through much much practice) you (well, god forbid) may get your own, UNIQUE style!! Wouldn't that be great?!
Recap...learn EVERYTHING first, before you try playing with styles...

Developing an original style is imporatant too, it gives an artist a sense of originality.
