I have no evidence of any sort to support this theroy.
But no matter how many times Blizzard says they are just sticking to the original 3 races, I don't buy it.
Sure, it took WarCraft till the 3rd installment to bring new races, but then there were 2 at once. So why not bring one into StarCraft now?

They know that's just what everyone would want. And Blizzard usually gives their fans what they want. They just take their sweet-ass time doing it :D (StarCraft 2 = 10 year wait)

But, if you remeber WarCraft 3, I believe the Undead weren't announced till very late into development. It wasn't until much closer to an actualy release date that they were mentioned.
So. I'm thinking we just have to wait until a closer release date, and BAM! Fouth race!

Who cares. The game still looks awful even if they were to add a new race.

The game looks amazing!

I've actually never played DoW though.
I need a new computer for all these games. This one can't play shit all.

A new race might be a little much.
The first game was pretty well perfect. But I have faith in Blizzard, that no matter what they do to a game, it will still be magnificant.

You have 3 unique races which have been balanced fairly well. I don't think there is a need for a 4th race or much of a want for a 4th race. Plus it'd be a lot more effort to put into the game.

Don't worry about it. If Blizzard really wants to add a fourth race to Starcraft 2 then they just do what they always do, copy Games Workshop's ideas. So lets see what races from Warhammer 40k don't have Starcraft equivalent: Necrons, Orks, Chaos, and Tau. Take your pick, either way it will not be that original.

I think it would throw off a balance of power if they added the fourth race. I think the only way to create a good balance of power between each race in a game like Starcraft would be to create an extra 2 races. Don't ask me why but there's just something wrong with only having four races.

You have the zerg mass attackers.
Terran nukes, ghosts, healers, and siege tanks.
Protoss carriers, dragoons, and photon cannons.

I just feel like something would be thrown off, and I don't really know why I feel that way so I could be completely wrong.

I suppose the arguement for it throwing off the balance is true.
Blizzard spent 10 years of patches and stuff finally balancing out the first game.

Currently, I view the game like Rock, Paper, Scissors.
If I throw down a rock, then the next player always has paper to come at my rock. And I will always have scissors to go at his paper.
The game always has some sort of reasonable counter.
And I love that!

I'm pretty sure the playable races will stay at only three, but I already read that their going to bring in the Xel'naga as the one unplayable race. I think that possibility will change on Battle.net, where everything and anything can happen. Its probably going to be worth it to try out Starcraft II for the online stuff, over the campaign.

No, but it's a basic part of RTS games that should in no way be excluded for any reason. It's like making a modern luxury car but OH WAIT NO AIR CONDITIONER. Christ just roll down the window dalkj32lkj4l23.

I'm not bashing it, I just think they've made many missteps that have made me not hyped for it. I was saying no zoomable camera nailed the coffin shut, it's not like that's the only thing I dislike about it. I've never been a fan of Blizzard RTS games, so truly my excitement at announcement was minimal.

On top of that, I've heard nothing innovative about SC2. It sounds like your run of the mill RTS that plays it very safe. Sorry if I'm not sold just out of blind faith.

That is the most pathetic reason I have ever heard to not like a game. Please tell me your joking? since u were approximately six years old when the Brood War expansion came out, let me give u a little gaming history lesson. Both of the original games were just like SC2, and the S. Koreans worship these games to this day.
To actually be able to talk to a woman who knows more about SC than u do is rather refreshing, not to mention she is six years younger than me. Who honestly cares about a zoom feature when u have one of the best RTS's of all time ready to play on your PC.
Well to get back to the initial question, I don't really believe that there will be a 4th playable faction. I can't w8 to try all the new vehicles and upgrades, especially the Terran vehicles, did someone say,"Banshee" ;-)

Oh shut the fuck up about age. I've played the game, and I'm not a fan of it. I'm sure at the time the game was a shining example of awesome, however I have no reason to look at a game that, in your words, are exactly like a 10 year old game, and be excited for it. Also, I have no idea what South Korea has to do with me liking a game.

As I said above, it's not the only reason I don't like the game.

Me, and most gamers who aren't Blizzard fanboys, which seems to be basically 2% of the gaming population nowadays. Not being able to zoom out and see at least a little bit more of the battlefield is pretty ridiculous in today's gaming world.

I could care less about your age, kid. The formula is the same for SC2 have u even checked out the demo for the game, trust me it is very different from 10 years ago. Blizzard just went with the "if it isn't broke, don't fix it," philosophy. I'm not trying to convince u to like the game, it was just to give an example of how even today people still love it. Yes I'm sure you have other reasons I didn't like C+C 3s simplistic gameplay or BioShocks awkward ending. Of course there are also good aspects of those games, right? Every game has problems especially the RTS genre, but that's what patches are for.

Now that is just stereotyping I already knew were going to play the fanboy card. What makes you think that just because I defend a game means I'm a Blizzard fanboy how typical. In case your wondering I dislike WoW and i'm not exactly a fan of Warcraft. Also zooming is not a big deal when you consider how many problems other games have.

You played the age card pretty early in your last argument bud. I've watched many demos on the game, thanks to my WoW friends who are absolutely obsessed with the game. The game just doesn't seem like my cup of tea, at all. As you said, I'm sure there's positive qualities to it, however until I get a demo and enjoy it, I'm not sold in the slightest.

I assume you're a fanboy by your userpage. Either way, it's blind following considering you're calling it one of the greatest RTS games of all time without so much as a playable demo, and not like my calling of Spore the greatest game of all time in jest.

Many other games have issues, 95% of which don't include being able to zoom out.

I'm just not a fan of the games. There's just something about them that I've never enjoyed, my apologies that my opinion differs.

Sadly I'm not, and I've never truly been wowed by their games, besides the story telling in WC3. That was pretty impressive for an RTS.

What? I added games I don't even like to that list because either people requested them, or have had multiple friends say they enjoy them. You're so quick to jump to conclusions.

You haven't said it that way until JUST NOW

Ok, why not go into detail wit it

Sadly I'm not, and I've never truly been wowed by their games, besides the story telling in WC3. That was pretty impressive for an RTS.

The story in the original SC was good for the time, especially with Brood Wars :X

But yeah, the first WC's story sucked period, and WC2's could've been better.

What? I added games I don't even like to that list because either people requested them, or have had multiple friends say they enjoy them. You're so quick to jump to conclusions.

It was your initial reactions to the games posted and what others had to say over the many posts that had me convinced, a good 10-15 minutes spent at least :)

You misunderstand, I want to zoom out, not in. Also, I have no idea.

A few years ago before they announced that there was going to be a SC2 I was dead certain that there wasn't going to be a sequel. Then when I heard there was going to be one I was in a pretty good mood to say the least. I am a big fan of the Starcraft series. I really don't think that there will be a fourth race because everything is set up even now. If they added a new race they would have to change up the stats for the other races. And on the whole zooming in and out deal, it is not that big of a deal to be able to do that, there is no real purpose to it. If it is included in the game then fine, but if it isn't I could really care less, it won't change my opinion about the game.

I'd like to add to BonusStage's point on SC's good story telling.
Beat the game again a year ago and the last time I had actually beaten it before that was sometime after it had been released in 1998? I forgot the release.
But I had forgotten the whole story and played through it again and the story was done fairly well in it.
I am still annoyed about Sarrah Kerrigan becoming a zerg.

Yes and you played the naive card early in the argument as well, that is why I mentioned the age. Most RTS players focus on not getting their asses handed to them by (if your a descent RTS gamer) about 4 other factions w/friends or hard AI. Who honestly cares about zooming in on a certain part of the map when there is 3 or 4 other armies that you have to watch. "Whoa! Look at the pretty graphics up close, hey why is my base destroyed, damn it!"

See this is why assumptions are dangerous, naive card played once more. If you would have clicked on my News tab you would have noticed my Hellgate London and Age of Conan GTs. Also I mentioned the one of the greatest RTS games of all time, meaning SC not SC 2. The Brood War just gave it more story and better troops or vehicles. The trailer looks good (or should I say multiple) I'm looking forward to it. As for your Spore reference it would probably be in the top 10 sim games. I think it's time for a new prescription on those glasses of yours.
As for the glasses crack, it was an example of stereotyping, not to mention assuming that you are nothing more than a teenager with too much time on their hands. Just to show i'm a good sport I invite u to the SC 2 battlefield in December. Have a nice day :-D

I really don't think a fourth race is necessary. They've got the three archetypes down: zerg overwhelms with numbers, protoss has fewer, more powerful units, and terran are in between and very adaptive.

I bet there will be hybrid units, but only in the campaign. :/

Wow I would have never guessed that this would turn into a debate, from someone who has obviously never played SC. This was about zooming out, just like BonusStage said, "the mini-map." Also my crack about teenagers was actually referencing Jezuz, who obviously has a Messiah complex. Well back to the grind.

I don't need a fucking 4th race to be happy.

Stacraft is PERFECTLY balanced with those 3 races, and any other race would be very hard to implement into a balanced system.

I would be very disappointed if there is a 4th race.

You don't have to fix anything that isn't broken.

But you could improve like WC3 did, and it is the same company.

Of course right now, before it happens you're saying no, but what if they were just all around amazing?

If it was really worth it in your mind that they did it.

Iunno, i just trust that blizzard will do what they've always done for me, wow me.

Show me that games CAN still evolve, and doesn't need zoom out's and shit (i'm teasing you this time man, an opinion is an opinion, and i'll stop arguing) to be amazing, it just needs to be ..... everything you want to play.

I don't get why I'm being picked on here. I just dislike the Starcraft series from what I've seen. Maybe the game will actually be decent, I have no idea, you have no idea, no one has an idea except the Developers and BlizzCon/WWI people. I have no such complex, this name was part of a parody name in early 07 before the name lock down, then I got stuck with it after I quit Newgrounds for awhile. Woopty doo.

Another thing, your argument above was basically changing what you said after the fact and slandering what I said or misinterpreting it. Spore is a game I've been looking forward to for awhile, so IN JEST, notice the jest/in part, I say it's the greatest game ever. I don't understand where that whole thing came into play.

Also, to BonusStage, I really have to quarrel with you or whatever your opinion is about the zoom function or Starcraft. I just personally hate being put down for basically no reason, which is what this entire thread past the first few responses has become, minus the past few posts which only have spilldog or whatever his name is making fun of me for one reason or another in one post.

None the less, I still hold my opinion that not having zoom is a stupid decision, and I'm not sure why gamers of any genre have no problem getting less instead of more. Maybe for Starcraft 2 it works, but as I said above, no one knows as of yet.

Annnnd done arguing.

Pfffft.
