I think someone on deviant art made it. They were accurate in the fact that creatures jumped off the mother monster but other than that, its off by a mile.

The "crabs" are monster“s parasites and in the DVD special features J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves said the backstory of the monster.

What am I, your fucking butler?
They don't nuke the city because they hope to have it repopulated.
Why else would the government hide the secret? What's the point in hiding a giant monster attack.
It's too much effort and time to keep it secret unless you're trying to gain something from it

If Tom survived the nuclear explosion, then it wasn't a nuclear explosion, which means that the govment would have to use use a nuclear explosion, which would mean the monster is dead, which means Tom didn't really survive

You are such a pathetic wuss, watch it and you are only allowed to get ill if you are sitting at the front in a cinema watching it, it does nothing on a TV.

'kay.
which means that the govment would have to use use a nuclear explosion,
But if the message got through to someone (in other words, at least the camera was found intact), then there's still no way in hell that a nuclear assault was employed.
The entire movie is based upon an amateur video, found at the "Cloverfield" location. So, again, the video was found intact.
Are you trying to say that someone zipped in under the bridge at Central Park where the two lovebirds were hiding, grabbed the camera, and zipped out of the war-zone AFTER the major bombardment that ended the movie and BEFORE this nuclear strike you're going on about?
And all this...without getting eaten/smashed by the monster itself?
which would mean the monster is dead,
A) Again, the idea of a nuclear assault being launched is in itself a tad far-fetched, considering a videocamera survived the Central Park bombardment
B) ...if a videocamera managed to avoid being blown to oblivion by a nuke, I'm pretty sure the Cloverfield monster would manage the same feat.
