Robert Mugabe, anyone? 2008-06-25 10:03:52 Reply

You know, the guy in Zimbabwe who's got his followers attacking and murdering opposition supporters in order to prevent the presidential run-off election this Friday? The dicator nobody seems to pay the slightest attention to?

Nobody made a topic about this?

I have to agree, though I have noticed CNN listing a couple of articles, though I can only find one at the moment. Overall though, small potatos as far as the world is concerned.

I think Mugabe is next in line. I certainly hope that if the United States are gonna remove a dictator, it should be Mugabe. Before he came to power, Zimbabwe was the richest land in Africa!

I can't help but be amazed at the guy. He's 84 but still an utter cunt. You'd think that by this point in his life he'd become better but nope, still evil as hell. Incredible.

Seriously... was anyone, anywhere in the world, surprised by the violence campaign by Mugabe and his army?

He specifically said at the beginning of the election series that he would give up power over his dead body, and that only God could remove him.

the US wont do it because, frankly, it has no economical gain in Zimbabwe, where as there is oil and fine Persian floor mats in Iran.

What's worse is that opponents like Morgan Tsvangairi (think that's how it's spelt) are being forced out of the run-off election that is due to take place soon.

Mugabe has destroyed the economy of Zimbabwe; any leader who allows the inflation rate to rise above %150,000 (at least) is not fit to run anything, let alone an entire nation.

Hopefully Kikwete of Tanzania and Mbeki of South Africa can put some real pressure on the Mugabe regime.

Robert Mugabe made a farce of the elections. What good is an election if the ruling party can simply reject the results?

Both China and Russia have threatened military action against the United States if it invades Iran. That is why Bush has not invaded yet.

the point still stands that the US will invade iran when it CAN, but it will never invade Zimbabwe unless they discover a gi-normous (giganticly enourmous) diamond mine (s).

There are many Americans trying to prevent an American invasion of Iran. Hopefully, the experience of the Iraq War will teach Americans the value of peace.

As Mao Zedong said, "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." I hate what Mao was and what he did, but he's right. Unless Mugabe is forcibly removed, he will be dictator as long as he lives.

Simply put, he's not leaving until someone else has a bigger gun.

Is there any country that doesn't have a bigger gun than Zimbabwe.

On China and Russia going to war with the U.S if they invaded Iran. It would happen because Iran supplies 9% of the worlds crude oil. So invasion of Iran would double the price of Gasoline in countries that still trade with Iran. That would generally be cause for war.

Mugabe basically holds Britain, the old 'colonial oppressors', responsible for the economical troubles in his country. No one in Zimbabwe is powerful enough to challenge him, with the Army possessing a strong grip on power.

If the other African leaders, such as Mbeki, were to break their silence and condemn Mugabe's regime, it might put a bit more pressure on him. I'm not hopeful, to be honest. The chances are he'll be in power until he dies.

You mean the guy who took power of Rhodesia, a country that was doing so well it exported large amounts of food each year, renamed it....threw the ""WHITE"" farmers most who had been born into 4th & 5th generations of living there, out !
Gave their farms to blacks who in most cases then threw other blacks (who lived & worked on these farms) out, sold the infastructure like irragation piping, the tractors etc. for some quick cash & then let the farms all go belly up & put this great new BLACK country of Africa into the poorhouse .

Nobody made a topic about this?

;;
Nah...never heard of him or it!

Winning the hearts and minds of your enemies and allies are the first step in every political situation.
Thats what Robert mugabe is doing. Hes using his political popularity to silence opposition and rid
people who he considers sub humans homosexuals...his white rascism..etc... He would be a brutal dictator for a very long time. We can only pray that he some how disrupts the stability in the region around the neighboring borders so they can force a regime change. or atleast the people themselfs can hopefully would make change.

Good to see Gordon Brown is really putting his foot down on the farcical elections in Zimbabwe, the violence that goes with it, and the potential genocide facing people who want to vote for the opposition - they revoked his honarary knighthood, and banned the Zimbabwe cricket team's tour next year. That'll show him!

Anyone want to drop a few thousand copies of Che Guevara's biography, or more specifically the parts about the Cuban Revolution, on the country? That might be a start - come to think of it, South Africa not looking the other way the whole time would also be a good start...

the US doesn't bring democracy. In Vietnam, they really fucked up the country and the military, in he Gulf War they fucked up Iraq slightly, they didn't have the time to do more damage, and in the Iraq war, they installed a puppet government that rules with fear and should be the last example of democracy (if it were really a democracy, it would be packed to the brim with Al-Queda sympathizers and the gov't officials wouldn't get killed by car bombs)

Seeing as it's Africa , the strongest general will probably take control ,call himself president for life.
The people will continue to suffer.
Just a normal day on that continent.
