I'm not trying to piss you off but I seriously don't understand your case.
I don't get pissed off easily :)
The guy knew what he was doing. He posted what he wanted to, using his right to free speech on NG. It was far from ban-worthy. People responded. People may get banned by mods, which I doubt will happen since the mods let a lot of stuff slide. People like you, decided to ignore the thread. The thread gets shoved off the 1st page just like the hundred other topics that aren't worthy enough. Life goes on.
I wasn't implying that the thread itself was rubbish. I just thought it was a good example of what happens to a topic in general: people trying to outsmart the OP, spam, short replies for a +1, and most importantly: not a single post worth 2 cents.
This is what we have to deal with, and that's why I posted that link.
In fact this thread illustrates two important issues The main issue I see is that there aren't enough mods and/or they aren't strict enough.
I couldn't agree more. But increasing the amount of mods won't solve the problem. We need people that can actively watch the forums and accurately enforce the rules. I know a few good mods, but most of then can't be on the BBS for much time. And I know mods who spend a lot on the BBS but (no offense) don't do much with the stuff spawning.
The secondary issue is if you were really trying to be a model poster, you'd provide something palpable to that thread like a short experience because it takes people to respond to every single thread like that even if if the OP pisses them off with their lack of language skills to make people realise that its fun to contribute. Its not just picking interesting topics, its making sucky topics like that thread really interesting. Otherwise, the OP and others will not be influenced since they will never have met you. If anyone has the dedication to do that 100% of the time they are on the General, I tip my hat to you and will fully support you.
Why, my friend, that is precisely what I've suggested a few pages ago! My suggestion was to bring intelligent discussion to threads by posting interesting, well thought replies that provided a satisfying answer to the OP and encouraged discussion.
Truth being told, I didn't post in that one thread for fear of topic deletion. Although the topic itself wasn't worth of deleting, it had questionable posts in there. I also lacked something interesting to add at the moment. But that's why we are trying to unite, so that when some of us can't bring life a topic, someone else does it.
At least I am glad that we are having similar points of view on things now. All that's left is less talking and more action.
