...after forming a pregnancy pact, an idea they got from Juno and Jamie Lynn Spears.
One of the girls got impregnated by a 24-year-old bum.
17 teenaged girls have no business reproducing. >;(
This is a blatant example of what our culture is degrading into, one that bases its values off of the media. People who form their beliefes off of what they see on television or in a movie have no right having children.
Perhaps we should refer them to an abortion doctor. I know a great one, Dr. Falcon...
When all else fails, blame the casuals!

Isn't it romantic and exciting?!!
Wait. What's that crying thing? How do I make it stop? WTF I gotta feed it too?!
Our growing dependence on laws only shows how uncivilized we are.

That is sick and wrong... Bringing life into the world for such premature reasons.
Let the babies live, but abort those teenage girls.

They shouldn't allow teenage girls to be mothers. Why the heck would they WANT to be mothers, if it is the media I have not seen this big a case of MIS (Media Induced Stupidity) in my memory. These girls probably don't have good parents either. The school needs to do more.

Except that they probly won't do anything to fix the attitude or atmophere of the area. Instead they'll go "Wtf? Let's hand out condoms!" as if doing that is really going to fix the real issue.

That certainly explains the doubling of the abortion rate, increase of the divorce rate, and less women getting married after becoming pregnant.
Although I agree for the most part!

This is just one more facet of what's wrong with our society? What's going to happen to the kids? How can these girls be this stupid?

It explains the double in leagal and safe abortions I grant you. But it has nothing to do with people going into marriage precieving it as a disposable stage in a realationship rather than the bond it's supposed to represent or women deciding that one nights happenstance does not equate with such a bond. Come to think of it oen of those could have a lot to do with the other. Then again fewer women could be in that situation do to the legal and safe abortions;. But who can tell with all these statistical things?

The abortion rate is based on reported abortions I'm guessing. So we don't really know how many abortions and induced miscarriages there are or were back them. I'll grant you that divorce rate is the result in a change in society, and some are necessary and some are not.
My mother got pregnant with her boyfriend of two years and now I have a crying and gross... baby living in my house. My family is still fine and it wouldn't a difference if they were married.

Double?
There's no way to even know if it's doubled... there's no way to even record that information, when it's stuff that's been driven into the darkest secrets.
Heck, even in the 1970s... people kept divorces secretly... perhaps, even into the 80s!
My grandmother, who is perhaps one of the sweetest women to exist, was a sort of Leave-It-To-Beaver woman. All smiles... baked good... "Gee Willikers"... naiveness... etc. All that ideal, except... just Mexican.
Yet, she knew stuff like abortions, divorce, homosexuality, etc. And when I said to her that I was gay, you know what she said, "Wouldn't be the first... you're the only one who's honest about it."

Double is simply the statistical figure. But considering before the Supreme Court decision, many states already had legal abortions. I highly doubt that with some states having it legally and some not that it would equal that number today.
Try and get around it all you like, you can't. Fact is, there were states beforehand who had legal abortions. And how you can come to the conclusion that there would be an equal amount of people having abortions in states that made it illegal then, to the number of abortions today when it is legal, is beyond me.
You honestly believe that in that social climate when abortion was illegal, the number of abortions would be the same as today, in our current social climate where abortion is legal?
Heck, even in the 1970s... people kept divorces secretly... perhaps, even into the 80s!
Not at this rate.
And how the hell would the divorce statistics be incorrect considering their legal status and recognition of the state?

Not really, Back then you could only get divorce for real reasons, not just irretrievable breakdown or what ever they call it. And also they both had to agree to the divorce. According to the bible, if you divorce a woman for any reason other than adultery, you are yourself committing adultery. It's somewhere in exodus or Leviticus, I can't remember.

From the article: "He said the mothers-to-be are generally 'girls who lack self-esteem and have a lack of love in their life.' "
But screw all that, let's blame movies and pop-stars!

yeah wtf, Jamie Lynn Spears didn't pop out of the condom packet and tell them not to use it.
I personally think that intentional teen pregnancy is for messed up teens or badly raised teens. I also think that a lot of teens use contraception and it's completely fine for teens to have sex if they use contraception and know what they're doing, or even if they're not desperate for a baby.
Surely you guys have seen Maury - it's not amazing that teens are getting pregnant and it's usually teens who are emotionally messed up that want to. We have to remember that these were all probably intentional pregnancies and it's not the moral decline of society that has made girls WANT to get pregnant; you could blame society's moral decline for increased teen sex, but not for teen girls who wanna have a baby.
also I'm absolutely certain that there has always been teen pregnancy; I know a few people with very young parents so they must have still been at it in the 70s, and pre-60s they didn't even have masses of contraception so teens probably got pregnant all the time.
And either Americans are totally different to Europeans, or the majority of the populace wants to wait until they've got their life in some sort of order before they have babies. The massive majority. Almost everyone that everyone on this board knows will probably want to wait a while to have a baby and would hate a teen pregnancy. So society is still doing fine.
Can't handle that this was blamed on Ms Spears tho

yep, celebs and the media did this!
its not a lack of affection on the girls part, a troubled family life, a need for attention, a lack of judgement, an underestamation of the responsibility that comes with a child, or anything else that might come with a small sense of personal responsibility.
no, it was celebs and the media.

Yes, the quest for free love, for sex, drugs and rock and roll, was an inherently moral quest.
Of course the 60's was about reckless amoral hedonism. What part of "let's take a lot of drugs, have sex with strangers, and rebel against authority" says otherwise?

Yea, if the 17 teenaged girls all have good paying jobs that allow them to care for the baby without a father. More likely, all these girls are unemployed and live with their parent(s). Whatever conditions existed to cause this will be passed on to a new generation. These babies will also be more likely to have children early, commit crimes, not finish school, and be a drain on society.
Actions do not exist in a vacuum. These girls choices affect the rest of us too.
Joe Biden is not change. He's more of the same.
