Video game character names...

Some of the names are difficult to pronounce. Not really, but in such a way where you can think of two ways to say it and be unsure as to which one is correct. I'll start a small list:

Tifa - I believe pronounced TEEFUH, though I hear others say Tiffuh.
Locke - I pronounce it "LOKE" like BLOKE but without the B. I'm unsure as to whether I'm right or not.
Tidus - Looks like TYEDUS but I hear it pronounced TEEDUS often.

That's all I have at the moment. Feel free to add some of your own or clarify mine if you can.

Supposed to be "lock" as in the word I'm sure you've heard multiple times.

It is the second, but I pronounce it the same as the first example because it sounds better.

There's also the Aeris/Aerith matter, but it doesn't matter because whether or not it ends with 's' or 'th' it's still pronounced as Aeris. That's where the romanization error took place anyway.

yes, there is a logical reason its japanese and when the write japanese words in english letters the i's are pronounced ee.

It's pronounced that way in various FF7 spinoffs, just not in the original game itself.

Lets take a gander at Touhou. Since almost all of the names are Japaneese (save for a few, such as Alice,) some I just don't know how to pronounce, like Suika.

Tidus is a particular character name that a lot of people have trouble pronouncing.

I called him TIE-DUS until I watched that DVD that came with the game where the voice actor, James Arnold Taylor if I remember correctly, called Tidus "TEE DUS".

Then did manly things seeing as I spent a few days on FFX and I was becoming feminine.

Ryu - it's pronounced "ree-you," not "rie-you." That always irks me.

And way back when, people saying "Ninja Gay-den" instead of "Gai-den" was always a fight starter. Of course, nowadays we have commercials to tell us, but when I was 12 we had nothing.

I also recall having a lengthy argument with someone over the name "Archangel" from the X-Men. I held fast to the pronunciation "ARK-angel," while the other person nearly broke down in tears trying to convince me it was pronounced "ARCH-angel" as it is spelled. 3rd graders can be such emotional little SOBs.

Gaiden - Not a name I know, but a game series, alot of people pronouce it "gay-den", I did too until I looked on Inside Xbox and found out it was "guy-den"

Its a game, who gives a shit if you say them wrong, I always call them how they look to me, even with Tidus etc. when they say it in voice.
