I notice around my area there is two types of cranes
one of those yellow cranes (like the one in your pictures usually)
and there are the ones that have like a tilting arm (pictured below)
can you tell me what are the adavatages and dis advatages between them?
also I notice there are giant blocks of cement behind the control room
why are they there for?
I am guessing it is like a counterweight but I have much doubt about that guess of mine

It is currently 300 feet and will be close to 600 feet tall by the end of the job.

The ones with a "tilting arm" are called luffers. The major advantage of that crane is it's ability to shorten its radius by booming its jib up. Thereby affording it clearance to swing in tight quarters.
Which is why it is seen mostly in major cities when building adjacent to an existing skyscraper.

Silly question but... are you scared of heights? Has it ever bothered you when there's a strong wind and you rock backwards and forwards?
I ask because just looking at that picture I had to turn away... I'm shit scared of heights.

Not at all man. I've had people come up there that havew been scared shitless and got over there fear after a couple of hours and I've had people that became catatonic on the way up while climbing the ladder.

I'm figuring that you belong to the latter group.
