Sadly you don't, just put the object on the screen and tween it! Geez, it doesn't matter if its a symbol or not.
Anyway, did you make sure that on the last frame of the tween the object is in the a different position than it was on the first frame. Are you sure that you didn't add anything extra on the last frame that isn't on the first frame?
Does your tween look like - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - or ------------------------------->
If its the first one it means its a broken tween and one of the reasons for that is:
Adding extra items on the last frame of the tween
Completely changing the last frame of the tween
Making it a symbol on the last frame of the tween if it wasn't on the first frame
Etc.
If it is the second one then it means that its a good tween, if its a good tween and it still doesn't work then it probably means that you haven't moved the position of your object different from whats on the first frame.
Sometimes tweens just seem to act weird too. If theres something weird happening that you didn't set it as, then try making a new document and trying the same thing, it may work then.
