I want to install a soundfont. I don't know how to. I did some research. It seems I need some fancy soundcard to do this.
I have Realtek High Definition Audio installed on my machine. How do I install soundfonts? Do I need to buy a sound card?
If you get a sampler that can read soundfonts, you don't need a specific soundcard for them. So definitely don't buy a new soundcard just for soundfonts. Not that you should, anyway, even if it was the only option.
You can use soundfonts with the following samplers (tutorials at the links) :
Reason - http://www.sf2-files.com/sf2-reason.php
Kontakt - http://www.sf2-files.com/sf2-kontakt.php
Halion - http://www.sf2-files.com/sf2-halion.php
V-Sampler - http://www.sf2-files.com/sf2-vsampler.ph p
And you can also use soundfonts (SF2 file format) with Logic Audio's built in sampler, EXS24. Simply place the SF2 in the "Sampler Instruments" folder inside your Logic folder, and in Logic open up that file with the EXS24 sampler. It will extract the SF2 and convert it to an EXS format instrument.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
