Very rarely does Hollywood prove to the viewing audience it can make a decent adaptation of a comic book. Despite relative box office success with films such as Fantastic Four and Spiderman, the simple truth is it is difficult to produce a film which captures the spirit of the characters as portrayed by the original writers, the same spirit which drew fans of all ages, and stays true to that nature throughout. But with Frank Miller's Sin City, that spirit is not only captured but duplicated immaculately on the silver screen.
Ripe with an ensemble cast at every turn, Sin City delivers the feel of the original graphic novels in motion. Not since Flash Gordon have comic book readers felt a film has done its foundation justice and flocked to it en mass. Though some critics originally panned the edgy, black-and-white style and graphic "pulp" violence, Sin City proved its ability to rise above the negativity and grossed nearly $75 million domestically, proving you can't always believe what you hear.
With two sequels in the works set for release in 2009 and 2010 respectively, it is evident that Sin City's staying power is solid. A movie that will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
