I wasn't expecting this after they gave GTA4 perfect 10's across the board. After only playing the first two acts, it certainly is a masterful game, far exceeding my expectations and more fun than GTA4.

Here at Crazy Eddies review shack, we're practically giving these tens away!

Bad credit?
No credit?
NO PROBLEM!

You're already pre-qualified to receive a ten based on hype alone!

I'm giving away so many tens... I must be crazy!

So come on down! We're right off of route one-ten!

And remember, if you can find a better reviewed game, you buy it!

I'm assuming you're talking about GTA4's review. I'm talking about MGS4's review, which came out today, a few minutes ago actually. I was simply referencing GTA4's review since it got perfect 10's a little over a month ago and I thought it to be unlikely that MGS4 would get the same treatment. IGN sort of touted their 'omg look, we haven't given a 10 in almost a decade' quite a bit during the GTA4 review time period. I figured they would probably give MGS4 a 9.9 or something to avoid giving another 10 so soon.

Because Konami has restrictions on what reviewers can and cannot say about the games.

In a sense, if they want to get a pre-release copy to review, they cannot say certain bad things including:

Install Times
Cut scene legnth
Requirement to purchase the online component
Online purchases

As much as I'm usually cynical about perfect scores, I must say this game was definitely deserving of one and anyone who thinks otherwise is incapable of having fun.

I bought a PS3 this morning specifically for it, and I've just spent the past six hours playing. It's a bloody masterpiece.

Unless it suddenly turns into a chaotic unplayable nightmare in the next act, I will view it as such.

It deserves the high scores, it's just a bit iffy how Konami has put review restrictions on the game.

It still got good scores.

The IGN Australia review gave it a 9.5 and the UK one gave a 9.9.

Throwing 10's around is a bit ambiguous, I think it's impossible for a game to be perfect.

Either the industry has been sacrificing more of their babies to the Gaming Gods than usual, or IGN is getting a bit too liberal with the 10's. C'mon, IGN, surely there's something significant wrong with these games. For example, I still grit my teeth in seething rage whenever a GTA IV speeding rampage is stopped in its tracks by an indestructible tree. And it's become even more apparent since Yahtzee so nicely pointed it out in his review.

This is what game reviews should really be: a middle ground between the gushing fanboy praise of IGN and the nitpicky, impossible-to-please damnation of Zero Punctuation. Though if I had to choose, I'd lean towards the latter.

That being said, I'm sure that MGS 4 is an incredible game, and it only makes me even more excited to get a PS3 (unfortunately, I'm beholden to when the IT guys decide to HD-ify my basement, since the console is primarily being bought for its Blu-Ray capabilities).

So I have to wait a little while, which I guess is good because I've actually never gotten into the Metal Gear series before now. So, Newgrounds, I ask you this (here is as good a place as any): for MGS 1, do I go for the PlayStation original or the GameCube remake? I have both consoles, obviously.

Either one will do. Just the Gamecube version (obviously) feautures better graphics, better voice acting, and overall establishes Snake has the ability to dodge bullets (wut.)

As a hardcore fan of shoot first, shoot second, and then finally shoot third in video games, I can't say I was ever very enthralled with the MGS games. To me, the sneaking and the "tactical action" are too slow and boring to deal with.

While I will, however, agree that the story telling in MGS is very good compared to some other games, the game speed just ruins it for me.

That would be my main reasoning, but the thing that I'm worried about is whether or not the remake compromises the original vision with its additional gameplay mechanics and different cutscenes. If it's all essentially the same, then I'll obviously go with the GC one.

In a sense, if they want to get a pre-release copy to review, they cannot say certain bad things including:

Install Times

8 minutes (approx)

Cut scene legnth

I haven't timed any, but so far, there haven't been any instances where I've been aching for them to end. They compliment the story perfectly, regardless of length.

Requirement to purchase the online component

Not true. The starter pack is free. However, MGO will be expandable through online purchases. If you want.

Online purchases

See above.

That's slick business jargon for "we're going to nickel-and-dime the shit out of you." Funny thing is, I'm still probably going to fall for it.

I think it's deserving. It's not everyday you can see textures, particle effects, and Snake's glutes in high definition.

Filler text.

MGS4 Snake is one serious GILF.

I play MGS4 today at a friends house, it is a lovely game.

I like the Japanese feeling it gives away, with the fast movements and what not.

Usually you'd expect a witty sig with a pun or joke on it, well fuck it, I can't be bothered anymore.
