Either the industry has been sacrificing more of their babies to the Gaming Gods than usual, or IGN is getting a bit too liberal with the 10's. C'mon, IGN, surely there's something significant wrong with these games. For example, I still grit my teeth in seething rage whenever a GTA IV speeding rampage is stopped in its tracks by an indestructible tree. And it's become even more apparent since Yahtzee so nicely pointed it out in his review.
This is what game reviews should really be: a middle ground between the gushing fanboy praise of IGN and the nitpicky, impossible-to-please damnation of Zero Punctuation. Though if I had to choose, I'd lean towards the latter.
That being said, I'm sure that MGS 4 is an incredible game, and it only makes me even more excited to get a PS3 (unfortunately, I'm beholden to when the IT guys decide to HD-ify my basement, since the console is primarily being bought for its Blu-Ray capabilities).
So I have to wait a little while, which I guess is good because I've actually never gotten into the Metal Gear series before now. So, Newgrounds, I ask you this (here is as good a place as any): for MGS 1, do I go for the PlayStation original or the GameCube remake? I have both consoles, obviously.
