Stupid Zelda Mistake

when I first played it.

I thought the main character, Link, was actually Zelda. So I named him that.

Then I felt like an idiot when I met Zelda.

I find it amazing how you think you're the only dumbass to make that mistake. If you went on the NSider you'd know that there are MANY people who have made that mistake. So don't act like you're the first cause you're not, I've made the mistake, my sister made the mistake, hell I bet you most people who played Zelda made the mistake.

Yeah, when I first got the game, I thought Link was Zelda. Everybody who hasn't played the game thinks that though. I was 6 or 7 as well. It's funny to name him Zelda though, because when you actually meet the princess, she says, "What's your name? Hmm... Zelda... it sounds familiar."

As far back as I can remember, I always knew his name was Link. In fact I wondered how my older brother knew, he told me. I thought he made up the name and then Nintendo just ran with it or something, haha. Or that's what I thought about the Ninja Turtles... I dunno

Yeah, the original "Legend of Zelda" is still one of my favorite games; I remember back in high school, me and my friends would stay up for hours on end, marveling at the amazing graphics. There was always one person on our floor playing it in the game room, and it was not uncommon for there to be up to ten kids huddled in there...the day before an important exam :D. Anyway, the mistake was so obvious, that you were considered smart if you actually named your character "Link"; this would have meant that you had actually read up on the game before its release. Oh, me? No, being an ultra geek (dweeb, wonk, spaz, nerd, it's all the same), I knew about our elf buddy from the get-go; my buds would be like, "Dude, who the Hell is Link? What are you talking about?". And then they'd find out the truth and feel like assholes afterwards. Anyway, nice topic; keeps us old bastards going on nostalgic memories of our glory years!

I knew it was Link that I was playing because I used a guide to get past the game. Still I couldn't get the longshot from the water temple, where the hell is it bah I stopped trying to look for it.

When I played my first legend of zelda game I also thought Link was Zelda, when I read the front of the game and made that deduction (very young age here, 7 maybe 8). Then I figured it all out when in the first 45 seconds of text Link's father calls him by name. If you miss that huge hint in the game then I have nothing for you.

I named my character after myself the first time I played. I didn't find out his name was supposed to be Link until after OoT was released and I was talking to some of my friends about it.
