Metal Gear Solid 4 Thread 2008-06-12 14:26:19 Reply

This is a casual thread to discuss MGS4 and everything related. Please, feel welcome to POST SPOILERS, BUT ONLY WITH A VERY CLEAR WARNING BEFORE THE SPOILER OCCURS IN YOUR REPLY, CHEERS.

So um, yeah. Went over to a mates place, when he told me that he read about some guy getting a copy. I thought he was pissing me at first, since the release is in two days...

So we go to an EBgames, and I nearly piss myself when I see a copy on a shelf. Then I found out that it was only a pre-order box. Ouch. And then I realise that they sell the real copies at the register.

And I have now played the game for 2 hours. MGS4 is the mother of all MGS games, and quite possibly the best game of the year so far. Shit, I'm so excited that I just had to write that in italic. So far, the game is so goddamn great.

-Minor Gameplay Spoilers AHOY-

This game handles last year, only that the menu buttons have been re-arranged. Selecting something is now done by pressing 'X', not 'O' as in the previous games. The menus are now very futuristic and glassy, and can actually be changed through the option.

I think there's about 16-30 colour themes to choose from. Combat has been improved, and it feels more finished and brutal now.

Fans of MGS3 will be happy to know that the camo system is still there. Everything is done automatically now though; press up against a wall and you gain its texture. The same goes for every surface, and I'm sure I've encountered more than 60-70 textures so far.

You can also save the camo if you think it looks awesome.

Also, Johnny is back (your first encounter with him is hilarious, 'nuff said)

-SPOILERS END-

So, anyone else got this game? :)

Yea I have it, and I'm fucking loving every moment of it, also I have to say that watching the cutscenes is just as entertaining as actually playing the game, they are such amazingly crafted cinematic experiences.

I love metal like crackheads love anal. and crack.

I have never played an mgs game before mgs4 and now I never will because I know nothing will give me the experience that i've had with GOTP as this. Im in huge debate as to which game I've liked better. GTA4 or MGS4, two amazing games in terms of ground-breaking feeling. You can't say no to the density of GTA but then again how can you with the grand scale of MGS. The graphics, the dialogue, the cinematography (now DER's sum sideboob!)

Just the greatest. It's one thing to be indecisive about a ps3 game, it's a whole other story in deciding between to games. 2008, ps3 is going to drop some bombs let me tell you.

Really? My only problem that nanomachines ended up being Kojimas fairydust. Everything out of place was explained with nanomachines.

That did seem to be a bit of a problem. I can say if you don't pay attention or haven't played any of the past games you won't catch on all that quickly.

Best fight in that game(IMO) was the REX vs RAY fight. Maybe it's because I've always wanted to operate REX in one of the games. That and he's pretty bad ass at kicking RAYS ass.

I think the game is excellent, probably my favourite ever. I'm fighting Screaming Mantis right now, I think I've nearly completed it.

And every boss battle was solved using the syringe.

If by best playable fight, then yes. But Raiden Vs. Vamp (Part 1) makes me masturbate furiously.

i just got the PS3 MGS4 bundle ysterday and was very exited to play mgs 4, i had never played any of the previous ones before so i didnt know what all the hype was about, so wen i played it i struggled to play 10 minutes of it... the cutscenes were too long and boring and walking next to walls avoiding people did not interest me, i eventually ran around killing everyone before going back to BF: Bad Company. i guess its not for everyone

The game is very good and I loved of the surprises you get but The only thimg I don't like is that lots of the stealth part of the game has been killed and it does drag on a bit.

The game's subtitle is "Tactical Espionage Action", of course it's going to be stealthy

Aye, but it wasn't super stealthy. It was easier to escape than it used to be, and the war going on did distract the enemies.

Good boss battles though and excellent cutscenes.

Wow. How the hell did you understand ANYTHING then? lol. My friend walked in on me while I was playing the scene where "Guns of the Patriots" gets activated, in Eastern Europe, and he was like "What the fuck?!?! He pointed, said bang, and a helicopter went down. This game is SHIIIIT." and I was like... "*sigh* Start here... *handed him a copy of Metal Gear Solid*"
