Brings me back to the fact that 90% of people visiting newgrounds have shit of a clue(read: no knowledge at all)about music and are mere passive comfortist conformist top 40 listeners. How can such judge a composers work? (read: they cant)

yeah fairpoint one mans gold is another mans shitheap. you could make something which is musically speaking fantastic but everyone thinks is awful, but something thats musically awful could be a success.

Being a relatively new author in the Audio Portal, getting zero-bombed is a bitter pill to take. However, the general consensus on this matter seems to be "Don't let it get to you. It's not an isolated incident and it happens all the time". I would agree with that and not being too touchy about your scores. After all, as stated, there indeed are plenty of other ways to get exposure in the AP.

It happens to me as well, and at first i was very disappointed and like "Wow, i didn't know this track is that bad."
Now i'm more or less okay with it, because i think it's a confirmation that my tracks are actually pretty good, and someone is afraid of competetion. :)

Only bad thing is;
once your score is lowered to hell, your tracks disappear into Oblivion.
People won't notice you, if you're new to NG (like me).

just accept that newgrounds isnt a place to get noticed or apreciated as far as the portals go.
The only way to get that is to socialise, look up people who make music that you like and pm back and forth with them, just stop trying to run in the race, cause you're running fair and theyr running on pills.

Okay, so a few days ago, me and my friend Openlight discovered that our songs were in the top 20 of the Miscellaneous section. We were so excited, so we told everyone on Facebook about it.

30 minutes later, we were bombed into like page 6. Aaahh, the magic of the Audio Portal. Oh, and I think our Facebook friends might be secretly plotting against us.

Perhaps a small tip to avoid brutal destroying of your precious score:

Vote 5 on every recent entry in the chart of your genre.
If your song is surrounded by like 30 songs who also have a high score,
you're less obvious canonfodder ;)

Altough my experience is that in 10 minutes, those 30 songs can simply dissapear from the top charts.

I just look at it this way: When you get Zerobombed, it means some pimple-faced sarcastic teenage boy somewhere cared enough to listen to (at least the first 3 seconds of) your song. And who knows... maybe those three seconds of music were able to reach out and penetrate the inner depths of his soul, resonating somehow in a positive fashion, and triggering the first small steps in a spiritual awakening that guides him positively onward towards maturity.

At least that's why I post my sh*t here.

So basically, that's with the idea of giving those songs to the zero-voting people instead. You vote up a song so it would be 0'd rather than your own song.

I'd prefer to vote the score it deserves to be honest.

I once thought of making an awesome song that started with 10 seconds of horrible noise killing everyones fucking brain and then going on into the most awesome music ever (i had it in my head but i forgot how it went.. lol) with the text 'if you couldnt hear past it, prejudice, if you cant hear past this, prejudice' it would be the best entry ever.

Everytime one clicks on a vote, the NG system will COLLECT the user vote to the specific account.
If the system notices the person is constantly giving out zero's, it can notify the admins or just autoban the person to vote.
It can even be measured by the amount of positive votes and negative votes.

I don't see how this is not "well thought out" honestly.
I mean people click daily on something, NG must have some sort of tracking / data collection system?

I know developing such thing isn't particularly simple, but the concept is, in its context simple.

I never give a score (doh 5) my own tracks right away, usually i wait 2 weeks but this time i upload a new track (blue night, and come on its a good track for fuck sake) guess what happens.. instantly got a 0 not even 1 minute after i uploaded it.

So im like ok whatever im gonna 5 my own track just so it looks a bit more normal not that i really care about the score cause lol its newgrounds, im not going to repeat myself but honestly.. IT ONLY ADDED 0.50 POINTS ?!
