of course theres the review club, and uderdog list and such, but i dont feel these achieve the same level of general feedback as the voting would. as in you can see that in general out of 50 people the general votes say that yours songs shit. as opposed to 150 people have listened to it with 2 votes and your woderig, is it shit?

i realise that me typing this isn't really solving the situation, its just ive seen a lot of people saying things along the lines of voting isn't important, and just though id give a little counter argument to that. i dont intend to offend anyone with this, or belittle the current system.

anyway im off to eat a potato

Brings me back to the fact that 90% of people visiting newgrounds have shit of a clue(read: no knowledge at all)about music and are mere passive comfortist conformist top 40 listeners. How can such judge a composers work? (read: they cant)

yeah fairpoint one mans gold is another mans shitheap. you could make something which is musically speaking fantastic but everyone thinks is awful, but something thats musically awful could be a success.

not sure where this quote is from but "why do you think kids like rock and roll...because its terrible"

plus also we cant exactly force people to vote

Being a relatively new author in the Audio Portal, getting zero-bombed is a bitter pill to take. However, the general consensus on this matter seems to be "Don't let it get to you. It's not an isolated incident and it happens all the time". I would agree with that and not being too touchy about your scores. After all, as stated, there indeed are plenty of other ways to get exposure in the AP.

Well, no worries then. :)

It happens to me as well, and at first i was very disappointed and like "Wow, i didn't know this track is that bad."
Now i'm more or less okay with it, because i think it's a confirmation that my tracks are actually pretty good, and someone is afraid of competetion. :)

Only bad thing is;
once your score is lowered to hell, your tracks disappear into Oblivion.
People won't notice you, if you're new to NG (like me).

Haters gonna hate.

Recently, I made a post about this in general, and some kind soul referred me to this topic.
anyway.... here's my rant:

Recently, I have become concerned with votes on my audio submission.
It would seem that every time it reaches 4.40 or above, someone votes 0 on it, and it is sent back to 4.35-4.37. Where nobody really sees it... until shit gets close to 4.40 again.
I started to check the audio portal, and more specifically, the category in which my song is included.
(Hip-Hop Modern) to see what other songs in my category were rated...

And hey.... varying from 4.35-4.40 isn't that bad considering...

Any time a submission reaches the first page of submissions in that category, someone comes by and votes 0 on everything, and knocks all the submissions down in the rankings.

And guess where the highest ratings hover...
4.40-4.42

I think that some way of stopping retards who do this should be implemented.

Not only does this occur on audio portal submissions, but sometimes it happens to a user's reviews, flashes, art, etc.

When someone starts spamming mass 0 votes, (or flags 10+ reviews in a row as useless) some coding somewhere should stop him and say "Hey, fuckface. If you want to continue downvoting, go vote up on some submissions you like first."

Watching an entire page of the top audio in a category getting ratings tarnished EVERY DAY because some fucking idiot spams 0 over everything, kinda pisses me off.

/end rant

It seems you guys area already well aware of "zero bombing" as you call it. So why not implement something to stop it... or at least slow it to a crawl?

because its like trying to drain the sea dry with a straw.

just accept that newgrounds isnt a place to get noticed or apreciated as far as the portals go.
The only way to get that is to socialise, look up people who make music that you like and pm back and forth with them, just stop trying to run in the race, cause you're running fair and theyr running on pills.

Okay, so a few days ago, me and my friend Openlight discovered that our songs were in the top 20 of the Miscellaneous section. We were so excited, so we told everyone on Facebook about it.

30 minutes later, we were bombed into like page 6. Aaahh, the magic of the Audio Portal. Oh, and I think our Facebook friends might be secretly plotting against us.

Perhaps a small tip to avoid brutal destroying of your precious score:

Vote 5 on every recent entry in the chart of your genre.
If your song is surrounded by like 30 songs who also have a high score,
you're less obvious canonfodder ;)

Altough my experience is that in 10 minutes, those 30 songs can simply dissapear from the top charts.

I just look at it this way: When you get Zerobombed, it means some pimple-faced sarcastic teenage boy somewhere cared enough to listen to (at least the first 3 seconds of) your song. And who knows... maybe those three seconds of music were able to reach out and penetrate the inner depths of his soul, resonating somehow in a positive fashion, and triggering the first small steps in a spiritual awakening that guides him positively onward towards maturity.

At least that's why I post my sh*t here.

That's given me an idea. Let's start every 3 seconds of our songs with the words '0-bombers are heartless scum'.

Yeeeaaaah.

So basically, that's with the idea of giving those songs to the zero-voting people instead. You vote up a song so it would be 0'd rather than your own song.

I'd prefer to vote the score it deserves to be honest.

Yeeeaaaah.

I once thought of making an awesome song that started with 10 seconds of horrible noise killing everyones fucking brain and then going on into the most awesome music ever (i had it in my head but i forgot how it went.. lol) with the text 'if you couldnt hear past it, prejudice, if you cant hear past this, prejudice' it would be the best entry ever.

maybe ill make it sometime afterall.

FUCK YES ITS BAD.
This theme is totally raped, the beat doesn't make sense its random as fuck.

I HATE THESE RENDITIONS, they are just bad, really bad and people liking this shit are the cancer of the AP.
Its just a midi with a random set synth, drums that make no sense because the wannabe remixer doesn't know whit about rhythm.
Excuse me for being rude, but yáll can go fuck yourself if you believe this shit is any good.

Its simple really,

Everytime one clicks on a vote, the NG system will COLLECT the user vote to the specific account.
If the system notices the person is constantly giving out zero's, it can notify the admins or just autoban the person to vote.
It can even be measured by the amount of positive votes and negative votes.

I don't see how this is not "well thought out" honestly.
I mean people click daily on something, NG must have some sort of tracking / data collection system?

I know developing such thing isn't particularly simple, but the concept is, in its context simple.

sorry for the 3th post.

And you know it's only the 13 y/o newbs who upload crappy cheesy dance music that give themselves and all good music 0! And because that makes up the majority - it all ends up on the fucking homepage only to attract more 13 y/o newbs!

bombing has reached a new level of sad.

I never give a score (doh 5) my own tracks right away, usually i wait 2 weeks but this time i upload a new track (blue night, and come on its a good track for fuck sake) guess what happens.. instantly got a 0 not even 1 minute after i uploaded it.

So im like ok whatever im gonna 5 my own track just so it looks a bit more normal not that i really care about the score cause lol its newgrounds, im not going to repeat myself but honestly.. IT ONLY ADDED 0.50 POINTS ?!

Did someone with a level of 50 or something just zerobomb me? :l

Can this individual please get raped?
(and his family too)

yea i know this specific person whoever it is will be stroking his dick while reading this but i dont care i was already planning on leaving newgrounds depending if i keep getting reviews without having to resort to extreme measures such as the review request club wich i quitted going to cause its flocked by spammers lately.

Really, newgrounds.. fuck you.. fix your problems.
remove the whole voting system from the audio portal for god sake noone (with actual musical talent) wants it.
