So for those of you who are too busy being locked up in there rooms makin music on the computorz, CBC canada is hosting a contest with a grand prize of $100 000 for the next person to make a theme song for hockey night in canada. I'd link a site, but my internegt is being ghey atm. Pretty much, It would have to be a 30 second song for the program. Best of luck to everyone, and don't forget to share.

If I am Canadian, but don't live in Canada, can I participate? (true for me)
Where are we suppessed to submit?
What kind of music are they looking for?
Who is "they" (the hosts)?

I was going to wait until the contest website opened to make a post *good going >:(!*, but here is the basic story behind it.

HNIC (Hockey Night In Canada) theme song was not renewed it's license. CTV bought out the song but CBC has right now, nothing. They are holding a contest for a new theme, in which they will buy the rights full out from the beginning, as opposed to the 500 bucks per use they had last time.

The song can be about anything I imagine, with any genre, but i'm PREEEETY sure songs of more traditional sounds *ie instrumental stuff* might stand a better chance. I mean people have been hearing some jazzy orchestral thing for it for 41 years, I figure people are used to hearing it a certain style. Keep your eyes open, the website for the contest airs in about 5 days.

With the rules and conditions to this contest, it sounds like they don`t want to mess up with royalties this time by giving the winner only the $100,000 and the royalties will go to minor hockey clubs across Canada. More rules and conditions are to be announced later, according to the above article.

And just to throw my personal opinion out there... making something to replace that tune is going to be near impossible, that was such a memorable theme. :(

Yeah I'm sorry for not posting a link, I was trying, but I run dial up (it's hard enough to upload music...dear god) and every time I tried to open the page, my browser would freeze on me. I'm pretty certain it's canadian citizens residing in canada Nintechno. Besides that, I figured I would submit originally, but I don't have the sounds or quality capable of making something worthwhile, I mean I might try, but I figured I should at least give myself some major competition, with their beautiful sounding VSti's and soundfonts and such. But yes, once again Best of luck, and for once america shall miss out. Wohoo!!!

No...CTV Bought the theme after CBC lost it's license. and now CBC is holding this competition to see what their new one will be.

I disagree. There are a LOT of factors to think about.

For example, people have grown to love that theme... a LOT. So CBC MIGHT favor songs which have a similar vibe. In fact, their secret agenda may very well be, have some cheesy rip off of the old theme, so they can just buy it out, and cover themselves. They wouldn't admit that of course, but that's one way to go.

This theory is boosted by people like mariomusicmaker, who has just proven that people like him have grown to love that song.

So how close to the original do they want it? Do they want something completely fresh after 41 years of traditional same?

With no way of knowing, you can only throw your hat into the ring totally blind. Maybe I think too much, but there you have it.
