The following is a quote from here.

In 1995, the family of a depressed, 33-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico man named Larry Harper called police out of fear that that Harper was about to commit suicide. Police responded with a nine-member SWAT team, dressed in full military gear and armed with automatic rifles and flashbang grenades.

Harper's family overheard one officer say, "Let's go get the bad guy," before the SWAT team chased Harper through the woods of a local park. According to the New York Times, Harper died when the SWAT team "found him cowering behind a juniper tree and shot him to death from 43 feet away."

Maybe it's just me, but since when was the ideal way to prevent suicide killing the subject before the subject can kill themself? It's like stopping a bank-robbery by burning all the money! >.<

Thats the best way!See if someone wants to commit suicide then you shoot them.Its a fail-safe so that if the person doesnt really do it they die anyways.

Yeah, but judging by "Let's go get the bad guy", it just seems like an accident brought on by severe stupidity.

The entire government can't be so stupid as to deliberately kill the people they were called in to protect ...

I dunno. Since he was suicidal in the first place he might of been feeling remorse for what he did. I'm not saying he should of been left off the hook, but he was hiding behind a tree. I can't help but feel pity for the poor guy.
