That is true, and this goes for many minorities. It's really stupid of the people that use language like that, hurting people they don't even know. But times are changing, it's only a matter of time before the backward people DIE and the new generations take over injecting some sanity into society.
Though there will always be some poor chaps who just can't help it...
Why do you try to explain something yet unexplainable by logic, with something absolutely illogic and by its very nature unexplainable? What's the purpose of that nonsense?

I use Gay as an insult all the time, but I support gay marriage and hope the makers of godhatesfags.com die in a fire.

The more you resist curse words, the more power you give them.
If we lived in a society where any word was worth as much as any other, curse words wouldn't exist.
Hence calling someone a gay-ass sissy fag just for insult's sake is fine.
People who get pissed at the usage of this word are trying to give themselves more power over the rest of us, that THEY should get some special rights in regards to language.
Fuck them.

Certain homophobic slurs weren't homophobic slurs to begin with until someone start using them as such, no idea when it happened.

generally people don't enjoy being referred to as something their not; example: calling a man a woman or vice versa.

I don't think it's that your being given shit for being something that your not, as much as it is the fact that your being given shit. Being called gay shouldn't upset anyone anymore than being called any mindless generic insult, unless of course they feel insecure about their masculinity of feminimity, or the way others view them.

I don't think calling someone gay necessarily means that you're homophobic.
When I was a kid, I don't know how often I would often say stuff like, "Oh man, you got gyped..."
That didn't mean I hated the Gypsies...
But, I wasn't really aware of the meaning in that word back then.

Meh, they're worse things out there than homophobes and racists, such as communists and socialists, but that's because I tend to mind economics more so than sociology.

I don't feel any kind of sympathy for gays, but I respect what they have chosen and I tolerate them. Here in Mexico, gays are hated a lot, this is because the society is chauvinist to the bone.

Gyped, jewed, kyped.... all slang for being jacked, or hi-jacked.
Stealing stuff and sucking dicks earns broad titles, it seems.

I used to call a gay friend "fag" all the time. I called him that before and after he told me he was gay. It didn't have a damn thing to do with him being gay. It had everything to do with him being a good guy. I wasn't afraid of him. He only trusted me with this info, we were in the military. I never told anyone else, until one day he got found out by his superiors. They didn't call him "gay" or "fag" they fucking fired him for being gay. He loved his job, he was proud to serve the USA and they fucking fired him.
I wouldn't worry about words, when America and apparently the Christian/Muslim/Jew God hate you.

I've found a simple way around this. When someone says something like "That's a gay table." I'll say "Indeed it puts it's penis in another male tables anus."
I figure, you give it a sexual orientation I'll give it sexual organs. And it's such a dumb joke that after hearing it a few times people will avoid using the word for the sake of not hearing it again. Not that I really have a problem with the word or using it. Overused insults just annoy me.
Also. Man up nancy boy.

I don't like gay people, but that doesn't mean I hate them. I just don't care for their lifestyle, and I find it hard to suppress the revulsion I feel when they carry on in public, which, granted, I don't see a lot of due to my location.
I don't like them, but I don't hate them. I don't support marriage for them, but I'm not advocating bashing them either. I realize that there will always be gay people around, but as long as I don't know they're there... out of sight, out of mind. Don't ask, don't tell, you know?

I find that it's just the opposite. Gay and fag have been tossed around so much in today world they they sort of lost their original meaning. They no longer imply homosexuality, but rather are just general words with negative connotations. It's people who feel personally attacked by these generic uses of the term that give these words their power. Bunch of fucking fruits, if you ask me.

We need a richer lexicon to describe things that are - see the only words I can think of to describe it are 'girly' and 'faggy', like a 'pansy' male you might call a 'pussy'. And gays and women all cry. Stereotypes are so deeply embedded in our culture and language I think it'd be impossible to remove them.
What we need to do is stop worrying about offensive words and start worrying about direct offence. There's a difference from a honkey like me rapping along to NWA and calling someone 'the n word' to their face. I can appreciate gay people being upset that 'gay' means 'lame' too (fuck that's undergone some massive semantic change in the last century, from 'happy' to 'lame' via 'homosexual) but I would encourage them to look at society being accepting rather than youth slang being offensive.
And anyway half the point of youth slang is to make it as offensive as possible. If we've got to be nice to minorities, then 'Jew' and 'gay' and 'spaz' might become insults. 'Bitch' would've been most offensive just after the suffragette movement, and now it's not so bad; same with these insults. I'm sure we'll all change when another minority wants recognition and start insulting them instead.
Also you don't care about 'spaz' in the USA but in the UK you call someone a spaz and everyone hates you. 'Retard' we can get away with, but not if disabled charities start going on about that too.

I've had to struggle for most of my life listening to every racist wanker this side of Birmingham.
Almost EVERY time it's simply a struggle simplicity of their ignorance. Half the time picking on any minority has almost become custom to some people. A friend of mines 12-year old child came home one day from seeing his dad at work. One of the first things he said was "Bloody paki's are taking all the jobs."
This is shockingly ignorant. And sadly more and more people are beginning to have views like this, I've seen more than a few racist BBS posts.

I'm queer and out, and I've gotten so used to it that it just bounces off... Occasionally I'll interject "Gay is not a synonym for stupid", but it might as well be. Words change. Gay used to be happy, and now if you tell everybody you're gay and mean happy-guess what? Instant "fag" label.

do you know why the terrorists hate us so much and call America "the great Satan"? its because homosexuality are against thier religion. they see America as a haven for prostitutes. get rid of them, the terrorists go else where. Homosexuality an abomination in God's eyes. the prostitutes will be thrown into hell. read Revelations 17-20. it tells what will happen to them.

lol, so we should not allow it because of terriorst, well then I guess they won in putting fear in your hart.

So some book says it is, doesn't make it true, as I always say the bible was written by men not god.
