We all know that the average human being lives to an approximate 80 years. But a thought just occured to me while I was just sitting playing Crisis Core. Could slowing down our metabolic rate increase life
length?
Now, I vaguely remember reading somewhere, that the faster your metabolism, the shorter you live. The shrew for example, eats over 2x it's body waieght a day or it dies. It has one of the fastest metabolisms ever. In reverse, look at the turtle. Lives to more than 100 years, easy. Why does the turtle live so much longer than the shrew? Why can it go so much longer without eating?
Now, this memory is even more vague, so don't quote me on it, but I also read that your metabolism is how quickly your body breaks down, absorbs, and creates new cells, and how quickly those cells die.
So, from what I gather, the turtle lives so much longer than the small shrew because its cells divide and die at a much slower rate, and also need less energy to survive.
Now, I know full well that slowing down the metabolic system is impossible as far as I know. Im just thinking. You can beleive what you want. It's your life.
