The only thing that concerns me with the whole situation is how incredibly smart the Mayans were as one of the more ancient tribes. They weren't anything like the fictional "Lost City of Atlantis" with supercomputers and magic or whatever it was supposed to have. They were smart as hell.

You all may thing of it as simple, but this was the tribe that "invented" the number 0. I'm also pretty sure they calculated the diameter (or whatever the hell it is) of the Earth, and came within a few miles of the exact number. Not so bad for not having the technology we have today, if you ask me.

I was wondering when somebody was gonna point that out. As far as any apocalyptic beliefs go, I think the main view was that the world 'as we know it' will come to an end. That has a lot different meaning than saying that the world is going to end. Like other people have said in this post, the Mayan dates show times of active solar storms, which usually coincide with the Earth's poles switching.

In my opinion, I think there is just as good of a chance as the world coming to an end everyday as their is a chance that it won't end. Why bother following predictions around.
