I'm on my itunes and I already have two movies on it that were successfully uploaded onto the ipod. Both are mpeg-4s of course. When I added a third movie, also mpeg-4, it was successfully uploaded but would not transfer to the ipod. when I pressed "sync", an error box told me this ipod can not play this file. Yet it is an mpeg-4, like the other two movies, and i can even watch it on itunes without any trouble. How is it that it wont let me sync up the movie when its the same file as the others? ive checked my ipod disk space, and there is still plenty for another movie. please help!

this is hardly a programming question, nor is it one that a general knowledge base of computing would assist with. this is why apple provides 24/7 phone support for its customers. try it.

iPod can only play macintosh formats; .mov .mp4. It does not support any other video formats, including divx, xvid, msmpeg4 etc. So even if it's an mpeg4, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can play it on your ipod. Oh, and it needs to be in a certain format afaik, like no larger than 320x240 or something like that
The "best" way to get a video on your iPod is either downloading it as a macintosh native format, or buying quicktime pro to convert it.
QuickTime in windows uses DirectShow (Quartz / Windows Media Player Core) to play video (if required) so that it'll play back anything you have codecs for, so that's why you can play it in iTunes
On a sidenote : iPod might be the suckiest media player I've ever encountered. Hyped piece of junk if you ask me
"no sound in ass"

There are many, many free converters that will convert into ipod, iphone and psp formats. A free one I use is http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/i Pod/, works with most video formats. Be warned it will shove ads down your throat constantly though.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice.

I know Videora is pretty popular but I found it of very low quality, it's very CPU intensive and the results of the converted videos weren't great.
Quicktime Pro can convert videos and I've found that a lot better - but obviously you have to be willing to pay.
Just a heads up anyway.
