I'm not convinced that the MSpaint spamming situation is really that bad. Yes, occasionally you will get a moron who posts a stick figure with a blob in his hand, doesn't seem to be so goddawfully widespread that it merits a total ban though . But when used as a device to draw a quick scene or joke relevant to the thread it is often quite funny due to the simplicity of the drawings it produces.

these threads are mostly crap as they encourage MSpaint, but there are a few genuine laughs in there. I propose tighter rules on MS-paint-for-spam but allow genuinely funny and well drawn ones to pass

Peace

existing threads would be left untouched.. also I delete an average of 5 to 10 threads of spam every morning or every other morning. the probably doesn't look as bad as it does cause we keep on it :)

you made me feel all ignorant and guilty :(

But, No offence, surely that's your Job as a forum moderator. You've just proved that these threads can be cleaned up quickly and easily, and not to putdown your efforts but how long can it really take?

There's a definite difference between Art and General forum MSpaint.
One being done for Humour, the other for Art

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/6310 62 -lulz

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/9021 94 ->:(

so yeah..I suppose if you are referring specifically to the Art forum...(re-reads OP...shit! you were :'(... )then yeah...Artworks that genuinely have no effort put into them and produce no funny or make no statement should probably be deleted..but then as yo just commented on the fact that you delete alot of these thread , what new rules exactly are you proposing?

Oh yeah...another argument!, MSpaint=good for quick sharp simple statement.

...I think you win...Kill the fuckers!

Banning MSPaint is the equivalent of banning paper and pencil in my opinion because to me it is a virtual paper and pencil with a Ctrl+V and the need to scan removed.

I'm not exactly the best artist here and the site can obviously truck along just fine without me but I can see a ban like this resulting in my art submissions being halved while I watch people who can't draw at all uploading the same old shit made in Gimp.

I see your point but bad art is bad art no matter what program you make it in.

Those are great, so let me ask you did you do those just to prove they could be done in MSpaint, or because you actually enjoying working in mspaint?

haha theres no way MSpain could be compared to paper and pencil, as MSpaint has for more limitations. I think comparing it to an itchnsketch is more accurate.

so you're saying you rely on MSpaint to draw? why?

I agree, but usually bad art is created by lazy people with easy access to a program that really serves no real purpose to any serious artist.

Thanks. I drew them because I like working in MSPaint although I'll admit that one or two of them were made in defence of the program as well as for fun.

haha theres no way MSpain could be compared to paper and pencil, as MSpaint has for more limitations. I think comparing it to an itchnsketch is more accurate.

In what sense is it far more limited? I would call it slightly more limited but once you have a tablet I wouldn't say that there's a whole lot of difference.

so you're saying you rely on MSpaint to draw? why?

I don't exactly rely on it but there's just a feel to it that I don't get from other programs. I can't really say what it its but using anything else to make a rough sketch just doesn't seem to give me same feeling. It might be that I haven't used the right program (and I've used a few) or might just be different strokes/different folks.

I agree, but usually bad art is created by lazy people with easy access to a program that really serves no real purpose to any serious artist.

Maybe so but the kind of people who are too lazy to create good art are the kind of people who don't read the rules because, as has been pointed out, the rules clearly state how MSPaint should be used.

A ban on lack of effort would be more appropriate in my opinion.

I definitely do that now. but ya thats why I posted this because I was curious what people thought.

So I guess the consensus is its a bad Idea,

agreed, with the following exceptions:

You should give points for politeness, more ideas for improvement, and penalties for ignorance.
Separate lack of artistic talent from lack of decency, and you've got a smooth running art forum.

The only objection I could see is if you don't have much memory on your computer.
But I don't even have MS Paint, so it's fine with me.

Seriously, how many threads in the art forum get "Read the rules." responses?
Adding a paragraph about MS Paint to the Art forum rules ain't gonna fix anything, as mostly only new people that aren't aware of the fact, that they are going to be flamed and most likely banned for posting their stickman, post crappy MS Paint art. People will still say "Sorry, I used MS Paint, but I swear my mom said the drawing was awesome." after a "MS Paint is NOT allowed" disclaimer will appear in the Art Forum rules.
New people that didn't read the rules. Even though lot of stupid MS Paint threads could be deleted without me knowing it, tell me, how many users posted their "art" after they were warned?
And while MS Paint spam won't be stopped, awesome artists like Ngmastah, Raguel won't be able to post their work made in the underestimated, yet original program of MS Paint.

Or, like Razac said, get an IQ 501 artifical intelligence bot that will consider all of the drawings uploaded crappy.
