Do you have a song that means something special to you? One that reflects a key incident in your life?

Mine is Mad word - Gary Jules. It's a powerful song in itse;f, but it evokes memories every time I hear it of an old TV show I used to love back when I was like, 10. It was the first serious show I ever watched. That was its theme song. That show was caled "Steel River Blues".

That show influenced my perception of the emergency services and is a main contributor to why I don't throw bricks at fire engines going past.

This song reminds my dad of his brother and that brotherly bond has been passed down to my two brothers. They each think of each other when they hear this song, but I too think of them when I hear it. I'm a big person on families, I love my family and how close we all are, so this song really makes me happy and sad at the same time.

SRXT - Bloc Party

One of my more recent happier times was simply taking my dog for a long 2 hour walk in some quiet meadows. I was heavily into this song then, so listening to this on repeat about 8 times was quite emotional really, especially when you connect with the songs message.

Guillemots - Trains to Brazil

An incredible song, and there hasn't been a moment in my life where I've felt like shit that I can think of where it didn't cheer me up just popping it on my ipod. It's a beautiful song requesting that we stay upbeat even in the face of trouble (the song was originally written as Fyfe Dangerfield's interpretation of 9/11, although the name Trains to Brazil is a reference to Jean Charles de Menezes). It's an incredibly upbeat song, with a great beat and a wonderful trumpet finale. It's the last verse, however, that really gets to me.

I can't help but feel warm inside when I hear Fyfe's voice on this track.

Anyways, Banshee Beat by Animal Collective. Firstly the whole Feels album reminds me of my first relationship, I got the album the day after meeting my ex, she also introduced me to pot when we got together so it intensified the impact the album had on me when I got it.

The song itself has some really stupendous lyrics, like the lines
"Someone in my dictionary's up to no good
I never find the very special words I should"

He wants to tell her how he feels, but he can't quite get it out how he'd like, and the chorus
"So I duck out and go down to find the swimming pool
Hop a fence, leave the street and wet my feet I'll find a swimming pool
Cause when I'm snuffed out I doubt I'll find a swimming pool
Hop a fence, leave the street and wet my feet I'll find a swimming pool"

The swimming pool being a metaphor for a happy place, I love the the line about not being able to find the swimming pool when he's dead. To me he's saying, he doesn't spend time moping over a broken relationship, he just goes and finds what makes him happy again because when he's dead he won't be able to find that place anymore.

The whole song is great.

Angel by Sarah McLachlan.

This song reminds me of what is probably the worst week of my life, the week that changed me forever. I was only 11 years old and I had to go to the funeral of my 20 year old half-brother and they played this song at his calling hours.

What makes this moment worse is that I barely knew him (the age difference had a big part in that) and now I can never get to know him. Something else that makes it worse is that I couldn't go to the actual funeral because I had a school trip to go to that lasted three days. So there I was for three days away from family a week after he died. Worst school trip I ever had.

This song has even more meaning because of one line in the lyrics: "From this dark cold hotel room." He died in a hotel room and this is the line that sticks out of the song more than any other. I couldn't listen to this song for several years without tearing up a little.

This song is probably one of the first songs I ever listened to. Any time I hear it I'm instantly brought back to being in the back of my mom's car on the way to school. I even remember the smell of her car. That morning feeling, going to school.

But as for my song, it's another song by Daft Punk, a little ditty called Emotion.

It was playing when I met my ex-girlfriend, and she was the only one who I thought I would end up with. I guess we know how that turned out, but the song itself still makes me remember how I felt that night.

It was recorded to raise money to Steen1, so he could pay his rent, and thus he, and his wife and two kids wouldn' be kicked out. It's also a pretty good song. Personally, I've gone through rough times and economical tight spots, and this song is very comforting.

A friend introduced me to Pink Floyd a while ago, and he and I were good buds. We'd perform "Wish You Were Here" him singing, me on guitar and background vocals for friends at parties at school and stuff. Anyway, he went off in a different direction, shining elsewhere, so to speak, so that song makes me think of him and the good times we had.
