Seriously, 2000 is almost over and there's virtually no sign of any new genres being created AND getting popular within our society.

1920's invented jazz
1950's invented rock & roll and basically rock in general
1960's invented funk and reggae
1970's invented hip hop and disco
1980's invented techno and house
1990's invented trance

but now it's 2008 and we're still using the same old formula that's been used for at least a decade already. I think we should blend certain elements from other genres to create a whole new one. For example, mix hip hop, rock and trance together (not sure how that's going to work...) or something.

So who's with me? Let's all start a musical revolution in this little Audio forum. :P

DnB and classical seems to be a good formula, but I don't think it's call for adding new genres to the AP. If anything, I'd like to submit to more broad genres, such as "easy listening" and "electronica", rather than sub-genres thereof. I find just one genre can be too limiting, and the broader field would work much better...

when i take a look into history ...
in 70' music was a continuous revolution, were created many music styles then, not only one ...
Miles Davis created then at least 3 different music styles, Jimi Hendrix reinvented guitar playing, Allan Holdsworth created his atonal very distinctive style ... rock achieved it's peack, from Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple ... funk was the "pop" music of that time (Earth, Wind and Fire)

then came 80's ... the lamest years ... Boy George, Rick Astley, Beach Boys, Cindy Lauper ... can you think of something worse ? even rock turned ... pop (aka glam rock), just listen to "rock hits" from that era ...

ok...long post
my point is, there are periods in history when things goes up and periods when things goes down
we might try to make revolutions, but what is to come will come at the right moment ... i think, but i might be wrong

I'm a sampler and vinyl junkie. I've sampled trance, drum n bass, jazz, funk, and classical for hip-hop instrumentals. Sampling in and of itself should be a genre by now, but the suits at record companies are much too afraid to see music history recycled into something even bigger and better, let alone improved upon. It's a conspiracy, I tells ya!

For proof, take a listen to DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...
From Wikipedia: "Shadow's first full-length work, Endtroducing....., was released in late 1996 to immense critical acclaim. Endtroducing would make the Guinness World Records book for "First Completely Sampled Album" in 2001. The only pieces of equipment Shadow used to produce the album are the AKAI MPC60 12-bit sampling drum machine, a pair of turntables and a borrowed-by-visiting Pro Tools setup from an early adopter of the technology, Dan "The Automator" Nakamura."

THAT takes some creative skill, arguably equal to the amount of creativity needed to compose songs on traditional instruments. What's to stop us from making that little box with 16 pads on it the newest addition to that family?

I think something like that already exists. It's called nu-metal.

And it totally sux.

You're right I forgot about that. Now lets add loud screechy saw synths and replace the drums with electronic drum samples. Oh and add a vocoder to the "rapper". :D

But anyway, my theory about this is that maybe so much genres have been invented in the past several decades that we don't feel like making an entirely new one. Maybe? We can try though. The Audio portal is a great place for experimenting since there aren't too much people.

Ok... I think we should take down those sub genres. I mean... There is too many sub genres in those "main" genres so i dont think we need anymore those.

We really should make a new gerne. Either that or revive 8-bit. I don't know.

Lol, this reminds me when I made and Industrial song and called it "R3volution." Odd, eh?

Check my songs. They're good.

Mindless Self Indulgence (commonly referred to as MSI) is a New York-based Electronic Punk band with elements of EDM, Punk, and Hip Hop in their music (the band describes their music as "Industrial Jungle Pussy Punk").

They realeased their first album in 1999, but are only famous in 2000's.

yeah the project i've got for that Fl core challege is orchestral Dnb, but the trouble is anything new these days is a sub genre because it can always be classified under another genre with flexible conventions

e.g Dnb can come in so many forms, breakcore, speedcore, breakbeat, hardcore whatever but it always falls under DnB because it has dnb features in it

it'll be the same story with any new genre

I've already been told by a few people that I've invented my own genre of music... Not gonna say what it is though... cause I don't want others taking credit for it...

... Not that I don't trust you guys or anything... ;)

Lolz that exists, its called Liquid Funk.

Anyways, its tougher than you think. My friend and I are circuit bending this Saxaboom, so maybe we can sample his retarded noises for new and cool stuff.

Linkin park has mixed rock hiphop and some techno into one song. I dont think we need to be making new genres if the ones being used right now are so popular. we dont need new genres. if things start to get old and boring thats whn well need em

Which is now. Rock turned into a lame emo wannabe subculture and hip hop literally turned into a huge corporate whorefest. We need new genres NOW...or at least bring dignity back to the existing ones. :x
