If you believe you're dependent on other people you will always be subservient to everyone else. Do we need another person to breathe? To eat, to see, to hear to feel? No, we do not. It is simply a matter of convenience. What you describe as "dependant" is merely a denial of the truth based on the principle of lethargy. Perhaps we would not have the amenities that go along with living comfortably but we would indeed be living so long as we keep our heads about us.
Life is more than serving society, so much more. Life is serving no one and nothing to any end, doing everything you can to have what you desire most in the world.
