Quick note - Not a flame. just a question.

Is there any "level" of PS3 that allows you to play ps2 games? I know when it came out it didn't let you do that.

Besides MSG4, Little big planet, and Resistance, what other games are there for it?

Nope. That's kind of why they cut the price from $600. During the process, they took out the chip allowing PS2 games to be played on it.

You could always use internet resources, but there's the new Ratchet & Clank game, a whole bunch of multi-platformer games like Iron Man, I could go on.

I thought if you got a 60 GB you could play PS2 games and then if you got 80 GB you could play PS1 and PS2

About the backward compatibility, I own the 80 Gig one and the only game that didn't work for me was Red Faction 2 which couldn't connect the controller no matter how many time I press the PS button or how long I waited for it to connect.

Plus I kinda think the whole backward compatibility is somewhat pointless. If you already own PS2 games, you'll have to start your games all over unless you buy that memory-card-adapter-transfer-thing that becomes useless after you put all your file in the PS3. If you still have your PS2 (unless you didn't have one), keep it. I use my Playstation 2 to play PS2 and PS1 games (Mostly because I never owned a PS1) and I use the PS3 for PS3 games. Works for me.

60 GB=ps1 and ps2, theres plenty of good games for ps3 (though not as many as 360) just go to gamefaqs and playstation 3 section.

60 GB and 20 GB have full backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games. 80 GB has about 80% backwards compatibility. Pretty much every game that you'll want to play will work. the 20% is mostly shovelware that no one cares to play again. Good luck finding a 20 or 60 GB though, and the 80 GB is becoming more scarce now as well.

There now Exclusive: Folklore, Uncharted, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, SINGSTAR!, Resistance 1, Motorstorm, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. I might have missed some, but those are the exclusives I own.

Exclusives that are coming: LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, MGS4, Killzone 2, SOCOM Confrontation, inFamous, Metal Gear Online, Heavy Rain, The Agency FFXIII, FFXIII Versus, White Knight Chronicles, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Motorstorm 2, Tekken 6, Afrika, Wipeout HD, LA Noire (questionable now whether its exclusive), and Siren: Blood Curse. That's all I remember currently.

Even if you like the old ones. It is seriously the same thing in HD but with a COMPLETELY random and not even funny storyline that obviously was created by all of the designers constantly as they created the game, instead of a well payed story-writer.

me personally, i like the ps3, but i dont like the fact that they rarely come out with any new games for it.

btw, the only two models that cannot play ps2/ps1 games is 20gb and the 40, but i do not understand why backward compatibility is such a big deal because if you were cool you would own the greatest system ever made, ps2.

Uncharted - fun, great looking game with lots of unlockables which equals good replay value
Orange Box- Has 5 games and TF2 is multiplayer and this game never gets old
Ratchet and Clank- Looks great and has very good controls and story

I'm trying to match up your reply with someone else's post but mine, but there doesn't seem to be another one. Your reply really makes no more sense to my post though.

First of all, he did not say 'main obvious ones,' he said MGS4, LBP, and Resistance. Secondly, I named 24 exclusives, 8 of which are out, 16 of which are coming. If you're replying to me, you're wrong and that's all there is to it.

Folklore is an action-RPG. White Knight Chronicles and FFXIII are not out yet, but should be good RPG's. Fallout 3 is an open-world RPG that is multiplatform.

A few of my friends have gone and splashed out on PS3s, while I've been quite happy to hold onto the PS2 for now - I've got access to my girlfriend's brother's X360, so that's got me sorted for current games - I'm wondering how long it will be before he buys either GTA IV or Rock Band :P

You have your facts mixed up. :/ Here's a little chart:

Full PS2 BC (GPU + EE) - 20GB NTSC, 60GB NTSC/PAL
Partial PS2 BC (GPU)- 20GB PAL, 80GB NTSC/PAL
No PS2 BC - 40GB NTSC/PAL

All SKUs support PS1 emulation. The only reason PS2 emulation isn't possible on the 40GB right now is because the GPU of the PS2 is rather difficult to emulate, which is why they only took the processor (Emotion Engine) for software-emulation.

I can play all of the PS games on mines and i only have a 40 GB. I live in britain. I dont see how this is saying anything against the PS3 and every 360 fanboys are bringing up totally irrelevant stuff to the topic.

Well... to tell you the trut. It doesn't allow Playstation 2 games on Playstation 3. I don't know why they did it, but they should have atleast allowed Playstation 2 games on it.
