So I'm working on my life drawing final, and I thought I'd share it with you guys as I work on it. The drawing is about 7 feet tall by 3 feet wide, and the assignment was to do a full scale self portrait as some mythological figure. I chose Odin, and am going somewhat from this

for inspiration. At this point the picture is about 33% done, and it is due Monday. I will post some detail shots so you can see more of what it looks like up close, and will update as I get more done. Feedback is welcome. :D

I just finished the rough detail for the crow standing on the hand. This took about 25 minutes.

Lookin' good. Good luck with this.
Was trying to work out why your legs look small compared to the top half of your body, but I think the chair's perspective is at an awkward angle compared to where your bum is seated.

yea the chair is still kind of screwy. I basically did a massive gesture drawing to start, and I'm going through working out the details starting with the most important parts and working toward the background. The chair will get fixed once I get the body right, but I had to get something in there to make sure that the guy didn't look like he was floating on nothing.

Wow, that's really spectacular. It's unfortunate that he's down so low that his feet are getting cut off ...quick, take some of the paper from the top and put it on the bottom! lol ;P

Thanks. Theres actually going to be a wolf laying in front of his feet, he's just really scribbly right now.

Here's a shot of most of what I have gotten done today. Compare with the first pic in the thread. I have spent about 5 hours on this drawing today so far.

This is the upper section, which is still very rough. I hope to finish it today so I don't have to stand on an end table to work on the drawing anymore.

I'm going to a class, so I won't be posting again for about 4 or 5 hours. I should be pretty close to done with the drawing by then. I'll update when I get back.

Thanks for all the nice words guys. I just got back from my class and made some pretty good progress. I actually found out we are getting an extension on the due date until Wednesday because half of my class are slackasses. So that means I will be able to hit a lot better detail than I had planned on. I spent most of class working on the upper section because I got sick of standing on a table to work on the top part, so I'm trying to get it to a point where I can leave it alone until I put the final hilights on at the end. Heres a shot of the overall work so far.

I am using charcoal sticks, a chalk stick, and 2b/6b black charcoal pencils and a white one for hilights. I use mostly my hand for blending, but I did use a blending stump in some of the very fine detail spots on the face. I have a kneaded eraser to clean up large areas and a retractable pen eraser for details. I try to blend and get the basic tone down then crosshatch over it so I don't have to pick at it with a chamois cloth because I hate those things.

It looks to me like chalk and charcoal, but I could be wrong. Nice work dude, I hope I can work my way up to something of this skill eventually. ur awesome!

btw, I think the chair is abit awkward, almost as if he is just sitting his ass on the very edge, it still looks good tho.

If only everyone in the art forum was this good. I used to think I was a mediocre artist, but looking at that, I realize that I suck. Anyways, it's good stuff, and I can't wait to see it finished! =D

I haven't worked much on this in the last two days due to finals, but I did get some details worked out and finished laying out the rest of the composition that I wasn't sure about yet. Right now I'm going through and cleaning stuff up, hitting the highlights, and getting toward finishing up all the parts I havent done yet. I'm trying to work from the top down so it doesn't get too dusty from the charcoal. If anyone has any last minute suggestions, now would be the time to mention them, because I will very soon be at the point where I can't change anything.
