what happens if im already running a collab which going along well

It would probably still continue since the new rules have just been established. I'm guessing that collabs that start now will have to abide the new rules, but collabs that have already begun before can still continue.

I imagine these rules will not be retroactive as that would be unfair... and just pointless because anything not worthwhile tends to be killed off in the first day.

Phew, and I totally agree with these rules. The collabs were sorta spreading like a virus as

Person A has BA>3
Person A makes Collab with person B, C, D
Person B, C, D make more collabs now they released a collab with Person A and get a decent BA.
etc... virus spreads.

And about the whole solo project thing, if you're passionate about the collab and don't have a solo submission, then a PM shouldn't be too much trouble.

Hurray for mods whipping the flash forum into shape. I can't wait to fight with a noob who is still convinced that their 3.02 BA is good enough...

I like the new rules, but the 3.5 average, then harsh for some ppl. But I guess its good cause the person who passes has more experience and better reliability

Good one

To Whiners
These rules are in place because each Summer a FLOOD (seriously) of collabs hits the Flash forum and transforms this place into a train wreck. The collab rules haven't been updated for a couple of years and the quality of Flash has significantly gone up. Hence the rules got to be tighten down and adjusted to a rapidly changing community. And if you have been here since January, this place got ridiculous. A few times the entire page was almost completely filled with collab threads, a large number of which were never finished or were lost to incapable collab starters.

Over a year ago the way batting averages were calculated changed to the average of your top THREE submissions instead of the average of ALL your submissions.... meaning that back when the original 3.0 batting average rule was created it factored in your earlier stuff as well. For people like me who had a bunch of submissions around 2.4 - 2.7 it was much tougher than it ever was today.

The reason we require one awesome solo project at 3.5+ is because we want to see that you are capable of doing good work on your own. Being self motivated and creative as an individual is an important benchmark to showing you are mature and capable of running a team effort such as a collab. It also helps to minimize those who ride in here thinking since they submitted to several half-assed collabs that score 3.00+ and think they can start their own.

And like the rules said, if you are close to meeting the requirements talk to us. We are not going to bite you.

To People Currently Running Collabs
Any old collabs still running are grandfathered in under the old rules. No one will lock your threads.

Just a really quick suggestion for a possible addition. This would truthfully clue me out of the requirements because I usually need an artist, but I don't run collabs...

Anyways, I think that in addition to the 3.5 or higher scoring submission, there should also be a requirements that said submission was not sent in on Madness Day or Clock Day, because these days have massive upvotings and someone could easily submit crap in order to surpass this.

Thank you!
Now the flash forum will become awesome again!

I don't think any of the new rules are too harsh.
Showing you have commitment and can deal with your own shit, before managing others is must.

Well done modz.

The only problem I have is the BA of 3.5. There are those people that are very dedicated to their work and yet still can't get above the 3.5 to start their own collab. I know you can PM a mod for permission to do one, on the other hand some people do not know of this.

I know I have wanted to start a collab for the last month and have some really good animators that are willing to participate, but now I lack the BA to do so. The reason I didn't start it earlier is because of another collab that I am basically running.

I died a little inside when I read these new rules :(

These rules are just a deterrent to people who cannot handle a collab and so that mods can have something to point to in order to shut down collabs that obviously fail.

They are very nice when you know what you are doing <3 and if you talk to them and are decent and hardworking, you can probably get the green light. Hell, I've even seen collabs get the green light when they weren't asked about before hand and broke the rules but the mods decided to let them live because they were good and well organized =)

At first there was nothing, then it exploded. - Big bang

I guess this means I have a fairly good chance that the collab I want to start will get passed after all :)

I'm happy with that, glad you raised the BA, mine is 4.05 so it's no problem for me, good rules! Glad you are still addressing these problems, maybe a 'only _ number of collabs at a time' would be good, there seems to be loads going on at the moment, the Portal collab is the first i have started or ever done. You can't say you can only do it if you've done one previously, how can you have done one previously if you're not allowed to start one.

Hopefully these rules will be temporary as well given that Newgrounds may roll out a better way to do colalbs in the future. Not that I have any inside information or anything but I can see the eventual collab forum or some sort of collab system happening.

Actually you don't pass qualification #2. Your highest solo project is a 3.47.

Oh :( It used to be over 3.50

Ahh cmon jmtb, aren't those rules a little harsh. My friend helps me with almost all of my submissions so if I want to start a collab I have to make some submissions without giving him credit for helping?

What if we already have made a collab and it worked out and such? Shouldn't that show that we are good enough to make another collab and that we are willing to run it and such?

So right now I can't make a collab...correct?

The rules say if you do not qualify you can ask a mod for permission. Therefore you should ask a mod by PM.

I approve of the new rules... It's really a pity I'm a pitiful actionscripter and even more pitiful animator.

I'm a writer and designer, not a programmer or artist.

Oh well...
