Hey there Newgrounds! We have new Flash Forum collab rules so you better follow them!

Qualifications to Start a Collab
1) You have at least at least a 3.5 Batting Average(a batting average is the average score of your top three submissions to Newgrounds, found easily by searching your user name in the header above and rolling over your author icon).
2) You have at least one solo submission that is currently scored 3.5 or higher on NG (meaning one submission you have done on your own, no collab or team).
3) You are actually motivated and responsible enough to handle maintaining several users and their work.

If you do not qualify for any of these reasons PM a moderator and they can give you special permission (if you can somehow convince them).

Things You MUST include In Your First Post
* The theme/style and requirements.
* The start and end date.
* Who can join.
* The version of Flash and Actionscript (if necessary) that you are working in.
* The FPS, Stage size, and other crucial details.
* How coauthors will be determined.
* If profiting, how you plan to split revenue, where money is coming from, and how people will be paid.

That said, there are additional ways to mess up and have your collab locked. Here is the run down:

Reasons Why Your Collab May be Locked
* If you start a collab for someone else that doesn't have the requirements to start one.
* If you forget about the collab or drop out yourself.
* If you tried running several collabs in the past and they all failed.
* If the thread derails into flame wars, fighting, or anything that really doesn't have to do with collabs.
* If you have to bump it constantly to keep it alive or a majority of the posts are yours.
* A similar collab is going on at the moment.
* Your collab is a "1 hour collab" or something similar in nature and you haven't given prior notice that you are running it... people need to be prepared to start a very short-term project and not have it fall to pieces.
* Any other issue a mod sees as unfit for starting a collab.

If you don't qualify to run a collab here, you can run it in a personal news post, over AIM, or elsewhere. The Newgrounds Portal itself has no real rules for collabs, but if you are going to run one here better make it good.

If you have a question, ask a mod. Or ask it here.

HAVE A NICE DAY :)

Thank god. I've been hoping this would happen. And I like number 2 because I get annoyed when people have a higher BA simply because they took part in a collab.

Yea. These rules seem fair and well needed. The 3.0 rule has been outdated ever since the system for batting average changed.

Doors. You'll know when they're appropriate.

im glad you made the requirement for a batting average higher, with those rules i couldnt make a collab... ive only got 1 solo submition, and its from 2006 and only has a score of 3.29. ive already got a collab running tho, which by the looks of it will be running for quite some time.

Yes, I'm glad you updated those rules. It benefits the spectators who look at the collab threads, as well as the participants themselves, who would be very angry if their collab leader wasn't in shape to lead them. Very fair.

Well, it seems fair, though I still think a 3.5 BA is a little high.

I think there should be a rule that a collab leader most have participated in at least one collab previously.

That wouldn't really achieve anything. We need people who are experienced in holding their own projects together and making them decent - not tacking on to someone else's.

that's a paradox.

the system needs something to auto block people like if "collab" is in the title it checks your BA and such automatically.

These rules are for the forums - not for submitting. Anyone can submit a collab. Infact, anyone can start a collab. But if they want to do it on the forums they need to comply with these rules.

no i meant for the forums, if you have a collab in your thread title it checks, but now that i think about it, it would be a pain in the ass if the person got mod permission.

Actually you don't pass qualification #2. Your highest solo project is a 3.47.

Then people just wouldn't put "collab" in their titles.

I fully support and will readily enforce these new rules. Especially that nice one that gives me full power to still whack collabs upside the head if they still manage to suck even after following all the rules.

Define this.

Say some ActionScripter has done alot of work on making a game and an animator has done his work for the graphics for a game. That wouldn't count?

So you rather encourage people to not pair up, actionscripter and animator, to make better flash and instead?

Say some ActionScripter wanted to make a collab with ActionScript (like your Four Second Frenzy), and they can't draw for shit, and have paired up with animators to make games, they're not allowed to make this collab until they create another game, without an animator, and hope it get's a score of 3.5+?

this can still be overruled by permission from a mod, plus most of the time it's an animator making a collab.

Correct.

But honestly, if you just ask us and we see you've done a decent job with previous projects in traditional artist-scripter roles we'll let you host it. What we are trying to avoid is the people that ride on the coattails of other greater developers to surpass the 3.5 Batting Average.

On the other hand I don't foresee an animator or programmer wanting to hook up with someone who doesn't have a few good submissions under their belt on Newgrounds so I am not sure how often this will happen either. Most artists and programmer tend to hook up once they realize each other have talent on their own.

This I find to be a bit on the ridiculous side, although I understand where you're coming from.

The fact is, no one seriously jumps into a partnership without at least knowing a bit about the other person. Even the blind hookups are normally a result of "Hi guys, I'm looking for an [X] here's my examples [Y]" threads (which aren't, haven't and will never be as far as I'm concerned covered by the collab rules, as they die off quickly as soon as someone's found thier perfect partner), and not as a result of collab threads.

Hell all my partnerships have only come about after having people on MSN for about a year and a half to talk to.

I liked the new rules, until I realized that I only have one solo submission, and it got a 3.46... @.@

I'm an ActionScripter. The reason I only have one solo submission is that I hired other people to make the graphics for my other games. >_>

Oh well, that just means that I won't do another collab, at least until I do another solo game. I just have to figure out how to make something that doesn't require a whole lot of graphical skill.

Yeah, but there's more ways to find out if someone is good than watching his submissions on Newgrounds.

Like, I could tell dElta was a really good ActionScripter before he submitted his game.

But yeah, I think the rules are pretty solid though.

first when i started it was hard getting a 2.00 then hard getting a 2.50 then it was easy getting that stuff but 3.00 took ages to get and i have no chance of getting a 3.50 i dont agree with the battling average of at least one solo project at 3.50 but what happens if im already running a collab which going along well

THE NO HAND TO HAND COMBAT COLLAB

IF I DONT REPLY ON IT IM NOT GONE IM ON NEWGROUNDS EVERYDAY JUST FORGET TO CHECK UP ON IT >:D
