well latly me and my friends were talking about this. The NORTH EAST blackout of 2003. Biggest blackout in USA history. We were asking each outh like what we did and what happened. Most Newgrounders are in the northeast region like TomFulp and NG head quarters so Im sure they experienced it. NO ONE had power for 1 1/2 days.

believe it or not, I had school. I was so pissed. The only reason I had school was because the school has emergency lights in the hallway. *god damn't*

NONE of my friends had school! You probally didn't either. That night before though My grandma called my dad's cell and said she had power but only a little so we went there . She had like 1 light on in each room. And to think.....The power went out right Before I save on NINTENDO GC!

So, as I said most of u experienced it. whats ur story?

I live in Pennsylvania. Which is North-East. Although, it didn't affect me. I think it was mainly New York.

Funny how suddenly a great deal of America's population disappeared for one and a half day, dark times indeed.

Let's see, I was 13 at the time, and I was traveling alone on a Poughkeepsie-bound Metro-North train. When I first got word of the blackout, the train was at either Cold Spring or Beacon to the best of my recollection, near the end of the Hudson Line. I'm sure that my experience would have been a lot worse if I had stayed in NYC that weekend while riding the subway. The power was restored the following morning.

God fucking damn it...

I remember getting free ice cream from Dairy Queen when that happend, the clerks wern't able to sell their supplies fast enough because the freezers wern't working, so they just gave it all away. Other than that, the blackout sucked.

Wrong. Some people have generators, some buildings (hospitals) have generators, and a town (don't know the name) out here on LI has it's own power station off the grid so that entire town had power.

For me, also 13 at the time, I was in summer camp playing the arcade version of TMNT when the screen went blank. I though that a consoler hit the breaker (as they often did the assholes) but no, all the lights were out except for the emergency lights. It was weird going home, all the street lights were out and they were out all the way home, sort of scary.

When I got home, I found my laptop had BSOD'd on me when I shut it down the night before, so the battery was on it's knees (not like I could have done anything though). The phone started to ring, my mom was unaware that we had an old phone in the house that didn't need power, so I answered it. My dad's friend was on the other end and he told me just how large this black out was. Whoa!

Wait. No one is going to read all that...

Day was spent doing kid stuff outside, and looking at all the stars at night.

This actually wasnt that bad for me...I was with my girlfriend up at my cottage at the time and my parents were out for the night and because of the traffic lights going out they were super late getting back.
We enjoyed the view of my lake. It was romantic :D

I live in canada, in the west.

I actually didn't know about that blackout until now, I wasn't into reading the news 5 years ago.

I see plenty of lights on where I live...

Really, though, that must have sucked...

We went to bars at night just to be in light and A/C.

This plan was not the most clever, as bars close when it is very dark outside. Nothing like stumbling through the living room at 3 am with a lighter, trying not to fall down while sweating profusely from lack of ability to turn on any fans.

I can't remember if I had school. But I do remember that everyone in every neighborhood were all outside and talking to eachother.

It was really weird, because for that week or whatever we were all close friends, then a month later we all don't know eachother again.
