You can just do it in shallow water.

If the water was around body temperature yes. Other that that no. You'd die of hypothermia or hyperthermia.

couldn't you still drown becuase your skin cells would soak up too much water?

No. If you had scuba gear it may be possible.

No, it's something you wear while swimming. I don't know what it's called.

While sleeping, your mouth may open up and your lungs would quickly fill up with water and you would die. Also, because of such little oxygen source and a long period of time, you may also die from lack of oxygen?
I'm not really sure, but if you have good water temperature, closed mouth, adequate oxygen, it may be possible. I just don't know the affects of being underwater for so long.

ive certainly felt like sleeping while doing the backstroke, but i dont know it sounds like an interesting experiment, you should set up a hypothesis and find some results and let us know what happens, just dont put yourself in danger

You will have to tighten your lips around the bambo poll. But when your asleep, your muscles will loosen up and not grip the poll and water will fill your lungs and you will die.

youd die if you tried it in nature, but if it's in a perfectly controlled environment and all the settings are there to prevent you dying...then yes its plausible

Not for long.
With the deep breaths you take while sleeping, a standard tank would only last you about 30 minutes, I'd say, and that's assuming you don't want to sleep any deeper than 5 feet underwater.
Enough for a nap, though. :^)

well... if you could find a way to keep your mouth closed around the little bamboo pipe as you sleep... maybe.

Well, you could if you took precautions, but it would be really weird.
You would need:
Air Supply
Some way for your mouth & nose to keep hold of air supply while sleeping.
So... Good luck with that
