Background help?

I've been working on backgrounds for a flash for a while now, but it doesn't seem that mine are anygood. Below are samples of the best background I've ever made, but it still seems I am missing something. Do any of you guys have any opinions, links to great background tuts, or anything that would help improve my skills? Thanks!

Maybe it would help if you could see a difference between a tree and the sky?

I guess it would be a good idea to explain the picture. It's supposed to be somewhat of a flat plain with a giant hill-like rise in the back. I know the lighting is off, but I was just playing around with that.

Wow, you really have to decrease the huge blur you have on that picture. Blur is good to have, but you added to much of it.

Change it and see what it looks like now.
