An Observation About Ng Roys

ROY= Rookie of the Year (in case you didn't know)

The award given out to the best new poster in the year. All of those who won have been at least noticeable posters who have made some kind of impact here. But something I noticed in my short time here is that the people who are voted to be the ROY are often overshadowed later on by someone in the same year who didn't win or wasn't even nominated for the award. I'm not going to name names and of course this is all my personal opinion, but I just thought it was interesting to see that for the two award processes I've seen, that there are posters from 06 and 07 who have developed into better posters than the winner of their respective year. Meh, just crazy thoughts in my head.

Maybe the point is that people who get it tend to not turn out to be that great in the long run. It makes some sense. Some people who are suddenly popular change their posting style and head for the worst, or someone who felt like they should have been noticed tries harder to be that good poster.

Often times, the roy has to draw attention to themselves, and its the users who don't that you end up liking later anyway.

Hm.. could that be because real solid users that are more understated take longer to gain a foothold in the collective conscience of the "regs"?

I don't really know who DID win the last two, but I'm assuming they were loud and abrasive. Something usually fine enough in short, early bursts, but something probable to wear on the patience when looked at over a time span of more than a year.

What do I know, though?

No seriously, I do know what you mean though. 06 Paradox won by a landslide, at that time he deserved to. Shit loads of post, submitted flash, he had a lot to offer, now he just aims to get banned, submitted spam into the portal, and is generally a troll. CapnCrunchDaPimp at the time came second I believe and I think looking back he should of been the one to win by a landslide. He's a fantastic user and I think that's becoming more clear to others.

Mendou who won for 07 already had the reputation of a spammy troll, I believe he wants to get away from that but only time will tell if he does really.

I can't talk about previous years obviously.

I don't really know him that well, but I agree 100%
He used to be really spammy but he seems like an awesome guy.

Well I'm secretly trying to catch him up on posts, he posts like a madman but from what I've seen myself, nothing much he posts seems spammy, he seems like an ideal poster who is always here.
