...I have seen enough fighting. I originaly posted to try and tell people that this competition was for fun, and that there were no prizes to be won (first thread). After that, everyone decided that it would be cool to have a massive insult-fest.
It was originally supposed to be a little bit of fun for some of the artists on Newgrounds, NOT the best, NOT the most popular, but the people that somebody voted for. Now, I can see why this is unfair: Nobody knows who, or when this voting was done...if at all. Therefore, people have become jealous of their absence on the list (among other valid points). I believe that if it were to be done properly, it would have had to have been done on a forum where everyone had the chance to vote.
Also, regardless of votes, NOBODY has the right to say ANYONE is better, or worse than anyone else. Music is a thing of opinion, and it should not be up to anyone to say who is best, that is why there are so many genres and styles.
It was a BIG mistake to make a list of the supossedly "best/most popular artists" on NG. And as everyone can see, has sparked up ALOT of debate. This is probably the main reson why this contest should be stopped.
I have read through every post, and thought about them all. And I have decided to not be a part of this anymore, and I Officially give my position (if this contest goes through) to someone who wants it. I do not mind who it is.
This is because, I do not want to be labelled as someone who "makes music to get on top 5". I found these comments, and others about the 5 team, very hurtfull. Considering the team was created to help other users who have put effort into their songs. It was never about myself, F-777, or Kr1z, It was about all those "underdogs" and others, who try hard every time, to put out good music.
At the end of the day, there are pretty much two groups of ideas:
1 - The people who support the contest: Who think it should go ahead. Be it because of popularity, the challenge, the honour etc. These people are defending the competition.
2 - The people who don't: These range from people who are not on the (already stated as unfair) list, to people who think that those on the list are overrated.
While both parties have several valid points to make (having a competition for fun, unfair list, etc), it has become quite apparent that this competition is going to be in for a rough ride. That is why I have left it, I don't want people to dislike me because I support it. I think its a cool idea, have some fun, sure! But it IS unfair on EVERYONE not on the list.
I personally think that we could do better than this. I'm not saying anyone is acting stupid, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. But if you are old enough to use a computer, you SHOULD have the maturity to sort out your problems without fighting. It is quite sad that people who are older than I am, fighting with those who are younger.
I would like to propose, that we stop this competition altogether, BUT, start another that is open to EVERYONE. This way, it will be like a MAC, but will have no prizes. It will simply be a way for artists to showcase their work, and enjoy the work of others. The can be a theme, that EVERYONE agrees on, and we can incorperate this idea:
Ability Level Categorys:
Advanced - The confident, more skilled (because of experience) artists. These are the people who think they are really good, and would like to really challenge their ability.
Intermedieate - Anyone who would like to partisipate, but does not want to get caught in the shadows of the Advanced artists. This would include underdogs, as they are not generaly "bad" at mucic, just unnoticed.
Basic - People who are new to making music, and dont have much eperience. These will be judged more softly than others, and mabye we can find some hidden talent!
...This way, you can CHOOSE where you fit, and who you think you satnd with. It DOES NOT labell you as BETTER or WORSE than ANYONE, because YOU CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF where you would fit. This way, everyone would be noticed, and judged fairly.
I think this would be a better idea, and probably agree with more people. However, if you would rather keep fighting...be my guest. But I will not be a part of it.
