To the topic starter; How is it possible that you asked audio forum regulars? None of the real regulars knew about any of this. I mean, unless I'm mistaken Chronamut is more active in this area than he is anywhere in the entire site. Sometimes I question if he even has an outside life. (Even if you don't, we all love you Chron. :]) I'm off track now... >:[
My point! What kind of audio forum regulars were you asking if none of the artists that were voted for know about it? The most popular of the artists are here the most often.
To everyone ('specially Nav.); Just let him have his moment of glory and then drop it. None of the things you're saying are swaying this kids thoughts, he'll just keep attempting to insult you. We all know that Nav, and everyone else against this (including me) know more about music compared to him, so what's the point in arguing?
Now, I skimmed through this thread just because the idea sucks, hard. But I saw a lot of people making very good, solid points, Nav especially. And then threadstarter came along and replied with the intelligence of a four year old. I'll admit, what I'm saying isn't backed up a whole lot either, but at least I'll say that.
Now, if I were running this. I would go to the active popular artists and have them nominate eachother because they know about music, their nominations will probably be their inspirations, so on. And I wouldn't limit them to a genre they are familiar with, I'd make it a challenge. For example: I suck hard at FL and the likes for creating music. I would probably be challenged to make an electronic song. (Provided that the artist has materials available!) Get it?
And of course it would be entirely for fun, I mean, can you imagine some of the stuff they'll come out with?!
That's enough of my rant.
But I hope you understand that you can't just barge into the audio portal, completely unknown and expect to start a contest featuring the "most popular" artists in the portal, that's not how it works. You need to get some reputation from the higher ranks man.
I hope you consider something, from somewhere in that wall of text. I have some pretty good points, and I've attempted to give you better ideas. So maybe, scrap this contest, think more about it, write it out on paper what you're going to do, make sure the artists are actually active and such. And then start up a contest, we'll listen to you then.
But until that time, my 2,200+ character rant is over.
