I understand your point here, but i would like to ask another question about it, why do African Americans usually use the NBomb as a greeting to other African Americans? If they don't want us to say it, why do they say it? It's like tempting a alcholic with beer, i beilve if they stopped saying it in such a manner, or in any manner at all, it will reduce *Not get rid of* the use of the word by whites.

Communism, Socialism, or Anarchy, these three above Capitslism.
Americans, let's change, now!

Remember, its not what we say, its what other people hear. Just because you meant "Whats up, n*gga (friend)?" it doesn't mean that someone didn't hear "What's up, stupid lazy, etc..., plus 200 plus years of slavery. We have freedom of speech in this country, but it is up to you to convey your thoughts clearly. Everything is subject to interpretation. Do I blame a 60 African American for being disgusted at the word? No. Do I blame a 20 year old kid for using the word, feeling empowered for breaking chains that have held his ancestors for so long? No. Hopefully in another century or so, the race lines will be so blurred in western civilization that this will be a thing of the past.

Your statements directed at both communities are something I agree with strongly. I'll be watching a movie late night on TV (8 mile 2 nights ago just because it was on) and we all know how many times the N-word is mentioned in that movie if you've seen it. But watching I noticed how all other curse words are present but they censor out the N word. I find a few things wrong with this. 1) How we will censor only choice words as they seem so derogatory to an entire race and 2) (which works hand in hand) how people in their own community refer to each other with this word. They think it's so wrong to use the N bomb, then maybe it's time they stop using it to refer to one another. Morgan Freeman spoke of issues like this in an interview, the use of the N word and about black history month in general. He said (I can directly quote) Is there a jewish history month? (Reporter: No.) Just because a race goes through a traumatic time doesn't mean they deserve an entire month to relive the pain they went through to this day. The sooner events like this are ceased, the quicker it will be for our society to heal. Teach it in schools, but for God sake don't make a show out of it. And my personal beliefs are also along this line. The sooner the public use and demonstration of the N word, the sooner society can shut the hell up and the word will no longer need to be used in our common vocabulary.

At 5/13/08 10:32 PM, GrammerNaziElite wrote: First off, I'd like to say that the idea of society purposely creating words just so people can be reprimanded for saying them is foolish in it's own. I'm glad that children are learning to say curse words at an early age, because it lessens the power of these words and makes them more acceptable.

But then the 'N' word comes along, and its negative meaning is imbedded in something far more controversial. Racism.

The 'N' word was used as an extremely derogatory term for colored people in the days slavery. Recently, the negro community has batted around the term frequently, but if a white person says it, there will be lawsuits aplenty.

I have two main problems with this word. One is directed at the white community, and the other one at the black community.

First off, I think it is insulting how white people have tried to censor the word in historical documents, or worse, to outright omit it.

I think this is basically saying, "Hey, we're sorry about all those years of mindless enslavement, so we're going to return the favor by covering up the things we said back then."

My second complaint is not how young African-Americans use the term, but how it is received. By using that word commonly they are desensitizing the horrors of their past. However, the larger problem is the way that whites can't say the word. If blacks are going to joke about their past, we sure as hell should be able to too. Be apologized, get over it.

I am with you whole heartedly. It is just a word and what it was wrapped up in throughout history should not mean that it is now degrading to the race that created it. It is stupidity plain and simple why can't people just see that all it is is a word nothing more. and by saying it your not saying "HEY SLAVE BOY!!!"
but just another general slang term.

Seriously, it's a fucking word. I've been called faggot and assaulted due to my liking of guys, I don't think faggot is such a big deal anyway.

While it depends on the situation of course, using the word isn't automatically a directly bad thing. Insulting people is always mean, no matter what word you use.

I have an unalienable right to say the N word becuase my ancestors were shipped to America, where they were enslaved for 300 years and called the N word because they saw us as subhuman. After the oppresors emancipated us, they discrimated us for 100 years, treating us like crap and you devils want to call us the N-Word? I have the right to call you a cracker because you called us the N-Word.

in retrospect. if you can call me a cracker, I can call you whatever i please because im not responsible for what people did 100 years ago, considering 2 of my great grandparents came from Ireland around 110-120 years ago and my grandmother, being Cajun, with a long family line of fishermen never owned any slaves.

The color of my skin does not make me responsible for what a bunch of brits did a few hundred years ago. If you think it does, then you are no better than any other racist in the world.

I, too will never really understand the word. Although what does get annoying is when non-caucasians treat you as though you've never suffered through discrimination.

Anyway, since I don't live in the USA, the word doesn't really worry me as much as I assume it would residents over there. It does, however, make the word "n*ggard" much more fun to use. Look it up and have fun.

You've got to be kidding me, I can't even use "ni*gard" here. Fucking hilarious.

the word might bring harm upon many of the older blacks who had to live through forced segregation, but the younger ones who only know that Michael King Jr said that "I have a dream" and cannot even recall what comes afterwards! Michael King? what? didn't Martin Luther King say that? thats what people called him, but his real name is Michael. what does this have to do with anything? nothing really. Its also interesting to note that Martin Luther wrote "Of Jews and Their Lies.

United States, productivity growth averaged a n*ggardly 0.8% a year.

Should sn*ggering be banned as well? Oh, my God.... it has.

I never enslaved your ancestors , I never seen you or any black person as sub-human, I never called anyone black man the n word.Becuase someone one hundred years ago was racist it dosent give you any right to be.

Im proud to be white, im proud that my ancestors were in a position of power and they gave it up becuase it was the right thing to do.And you know africans actualy help white people get slaves they kidnapped there own kind and sold them to white people.

and you know the united states had a civil war over slavery , thats right white people gave there lives for your freedom.

also
if the n- word is so harmfull THEN STOP FUCKEN USING IT.

and I actualy dont mind being called "cracker" as long as it,s not said in a hatefull way.

I mean didnt Martin Luther King have a dream where all people lived in equality?

Not living in a society where it accpetable for minoritys to be racist.
