The first few days after launching my latest game, I earned $25, half of what was needed for the payment from the Flash API. I thought that surely I would be able to make it to at least $50.

However, I am earning about a penny a day now, with $25 to come up with.

I've tried distributing the game across the internet as PhychoGoldfish suggested, but many sites didn't get back to me on the game, or they didn't go through (for example, I submitted to ArmorGames twice and both times nothing happens, and my account still says "no games submitted", and so for many other websites).

Only Kongregate worked, but that didn't get many views.

So...suggestions? Am I just supposed to wait until I'm 70 years old to get paid?

It's not a big deal, I can get a sponsorship on my next game, but it stinks that a game featured on the front page for three days (during Pico Day as well) didn't earn the required amount.

well, sponsors dont want you to submit your game somewhere else before you talk to them. You should of sent them your game, then once it was sponsored then submitted it. Thats how you'll make the money from sponsors. Why no one is really viewing your game on Kongregate is weird, but just w8

Lucky you...I have 36,000 views and yet somehow I've earned only $0.58. I mean, it's a very confusing way that you earn money, but you won't earn very much unless you somehow have a ridiculously good game.

If you get your game into a collection, it will get more views. I only have one submission with the API, and it makes somewhere from 10¢ to $1 a day. Heck I'm only up to about $10 so far... but, if you're only getting a couple cents, it does seem that you'll have to wait a while :/ Your best bet is probably to make another good submission, and slap the API on there, until your total comes out to be $50, then you can get paid. I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but that's the only advice I can give you :/

There really isn't much more to it than to keep doing your best to spread it all over, and/or use the NG API for another game in the future.

You can always try to sell licenses of it though, don't forget that all the rights to the game are still yours! What might get in your way is the fact that it has already been released, but there might still be a chance.

Actually, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I didn't think about being able to earn the other $25 with another game. Thanks :)

I would normally have sponsored the game and *maybe* used the API. For this game, however, I used Pico (because it was Pico Day), and therefore could only use the API (I asked Tom). So in this case, all the rights aren't mine =p

Thanks, though, I would have told me the same thing >_<

Yeah, I took a look at it out just after my last post and I suspected that there could've been some kind of deal like that :/

Can someone compare/contrast mochiads and NG API in terms of revenue? Looking to decide which to use.

I've made $25 in a couple weeks on NG Ads, and $2 in 6 months with MochiAds.

the thing about the ng api is that you DO have to make a good or relatively addictive game. You can make shitball games and probably get a sponsor to go for it in return for them plugging a big logo in front of your work. That's all great for people who need to pay their water bill or whatever but some people hate the idea of having a big ugly logo in front of things.

I'd rather have an ad that plays while the user is waiting for the movie/game to load... i mean they have to wait anyway. I'm not FORCING them to look at or sit through anything they wouldnt have to otherwise sit through if i didnt use the NG API. So in that respect i do like the api... also its done well for us. I think Castle crashing the beard has crossed the 2000 dollar mark. Its nice to work on other games and know theres money coming in for past games. Its important to not sit and mope about not earning enough. Stay agressive, the API is meant to compliment your collection of games ... its not built for you to make a game and sit on your ass refreshing the screen waiting for a million dollar click through rate.

lolz we are the same,
my game was in the frontpage longer than yours during pico day,
but even now I only have $20 ,
we submitted in april, I got $7+ during that day, but was reset in May 1
so right now, $19.81....

my eCPM is really low ya know,
sometimes $0.01, but other times, its $4+
I hope NG will consider rolling over last month's earnings to the next month

It was when NG ads was only exclusive to a few game developers, so the rates were amazingly high.

I got $1000 from CannonCrotch. All the numbers are screwed up right now, but I guess it's got about one million views so far.

I still think I could've got more with a sponsorship.

Sponsorship would be worthwhile if sponsored didnt OWN YOUR SOUL when you get sponsored.

Not when you compare it to the first game I got money from, Cannon Runner, which was a LUDICROUS £2000. CannonCrotch, which is on the NG API has so far got me £500 and is showin signs of slowing down. Which is crazy, because it's a MUCH better game that got ALOT more hits.

The game that got me £2000 actually was won in a competition, which most experts were quick to tell me I should not bother with.

I'm still glad I was one o the first people to do the NG Ads thing, cos I got alot of PMs from people asking how it was working out and most people jumped onboard once they heard the numbers. So y'know, I did my bit for Newgrunz.

API is an acronym for Application Programming Interface - effectively, a high level programming language used for a very specific role. Direct X, for instance, is a library of tools made for developing computer games. It is an API. OpenGL is another. Actionscript is one as well. There're APIs for everything nowadays - a simple way to allow users to program without them needing to get involved in the nitty-gritty of actual low level coding. Youtube, myspace, Facebook, the iPhone - all have APIs to allow developers access to features without them breaking the site or platform they're developing for.

What most people here called API once is actually known outside of here as the Drawing API, a bizarre term I detest for its misleadingness. The NGAPI is a set of tools connecting Flash to Newgrounds. Other APIs you may use in Flash are E4X - a standard parser for XML over ECMAscript standards.

Yeah, they should make it much better for the amount they pay and the quality of the games they sponsor...c'mon CMG! STEP UP DA GAME!

Just to all of you...if you don't think your game will get that many views at a time, but will more-so roll-over...that's not what you want to happen. You'd rather get all your views closer together, because if you don't, then you don't the right eCPM and you don't get any money.
