He wasn't. He mumbled into a guitar, wasn't that good a guitarist and his lyrics weren't that good either.

He was decidedly average in most respects.

I'm all for music appreciation and knowing your roots... but come on.
You weren't even alive when Cobain shot himself! Your profile says you're thirteen, which'd make your birthday sometime around '95, and he died in '94. Isn't there someone you could choose that made an impression on you while they were still alive?

Anyway. My vote goes to Trent Reznor.

Yeah that's true, though Brian wouldn't have been as big by himself if it weren't for Bon & AC/DC's success pre-Back in Black.

I applaud your use of the English language!

I can't decide because every time I think of someone, I remember that they killed themselves, or they died in a spectacularly naff way.
I'm gonna say either Van Halen or Jimmy Page, they're both pretty awesome.

I was born in late '94, but does that stop be from liking Nirvana and Kurt?
In my opinion, he was a fucking genius.

Yea, I'm a long time Manson fan. So naturally, I'm into Trent Reznor's shit.

Zakk Wylde. He's still sensible (CONSTANTLY working; Either with Ozzy, or BLS), not consumed into lame drugs, and with every album he gets better and better. Phenomenal guitarist with an ever-broadening horizon.

...Plus he was IN a movie called Rock Star or something...

My second choice would be Bruce Dickenson sheerly based on his intense stage-presence.

Hmmm... I would have to say Alexi Laiho.

How was he "true"? He was an average pop star at best. High MTV exposure and a nasty habit of pilfering other peoples riffs. I mean, everyone does it, but most people do it well (like on Pretty Vacant by The Sex Pistols, you'll never guess that they knicked the tune from ABBA!), but Nirvana (USA) were transparent.

Even their name belonged to another band.

I'd agree with that definitely.

I really can't like anyone because every successful "rock star" always sells out and starts a different band with another label to make more money...

Of course there are exceptions fuckers.

Jack White happens to be my favorite artist. If you don't like him, just watch this. It's nothing over-the-top-amazing, but its still pretty darn cool, and was the best concert I have been too.

As awesome as Django was, I mean all that win and only able to fret with two fingers, my vote for the True Rockstar goes to Mr Chuck Berry.

I consider Django's two fingers the most influential item of Jazz/Rock development in the world.

Those two fingers should be in Fort Knox.

my vote for the True Rockstar goes to Mr Chuck Berry.

Exceptional choice.

Chuck would have been my second choice, if I wasn't so in love with Django Reinhardt.

Fort Knox is not secure enough for items of such value.

Yeah, well at the moment if it isn't from earlier than the Beatles (bar a few exceptions,) it bores the crap out of me. I've gone REALLY old school.
