Well, my girlfriend is currently saving up to get me an Xbox 360 Elite bundle deal. Now, I used to play games a lot; I'd get every console that came out. The only currently generation console I own is the Wii (which is awesome).

So I'm asking if I should prevent her from buying it for me or not. She could always get me something else (maximum is $500). I think the 360 would be cool, and her main inspiration of getting it for me is because I kept on saying how Grand Theft Auto IV looks kickass.

Is the 360 worth it, or should she get something else for me? Considering the system is kinda old, I'm not sure if it'll soon be outdated with Microsoft's next console.

Xbox 3(whatever the title may be) is at least 2 years out right now, and there's still some pretty great games coming out/already out. You have of course GTA IV right now, Fable 2 this fall, Gears of War 2 this fall (which will be delayed), Viva Pinata 2, and other multi-platform titles like Fallout 3 and Civilization Revolution.

If you really want, ask her to put the cash in a bank account for when the next generation to roll around, although it's not always advisable to get consoles from day one.

GTA IV disappointed me, just to let you know. Still great for multiplayer, if you choose to play for Live.

I really don't see that happening.

They just barely released alpha pictures of it, and you expect it to be ready in 4 months? It's an unrealistic goal if they want to cement a decent game into the minds and hearts of 360 users everywhere. Of course, they COULD release it early, but I'm sure it'll be a massive letdown.

The 360 has a deep library, a little something for everyone. The online aspect is huge and the spring update is on its way. Tomorrow is Microsoft's Gamer day so you will hear new announcements on games and new events for the 360. It has a huge user base (especially here in the states).

I'd say it is well worth the investment. You might not need an elite, but a 360 with a hard drive will definitely do it for you.

I'd highly suggest an elite, though. It's so nice having that giant hard drive.

Oh yeah definitely. I just don't know how cool he is with sucking all that out of his girlfriend's hard earned money. Even if she offered I'd feel a little bad.

Yeah, I do. I told her I'd want the regular Xbox 360, but she then did research and said she wanted to get me the Elite one because she thought I deserved it.

Also, what would be the benefits of having a lot of space? I don't see myself putting music onto my Xbox.

Also, I'm not one to play games online, so if that's Xbox's biggest claim to fame, I may reconsider the entire thing. I just don't find the idea of playing online exciting.

Well a lot of people try it out and see if they like it. A lot of games give you 2 day trials and if you like it you can eventually purchase a year of Xbox Live for 50 bucks. That's not saying you can't have fun without it but a lot of people end up liking it.

Also benefits are you can download movies, download games, download new maps/themes/etc for your games. If you're into Guitar Hero/Rock Band you can download more music and things for it. You don't have have to pay to have online, the only thing you have to pay for is if you want to play your games with other people which is like I said 50 bucks a year.

So unless you're going to utilize the online in some way, a 120 gig hard drive isn't all that necessary. However, over the years it may work out depending on how many games you buy and save upon the hard drive.

The hard drive is too big, but regardless...she's saving up to buy you an XBOX 360! That you don't have ot pay for! Take it!

The only problem is she'll be expecting something just as expensive or more expensive and elaborate for her birthday...like a ring. Trust me...I know from current experience as to what what girlfriend is banking on me getting her for her birthday after she hooked me up with Oakley's and a whole bunch of other expensive shit last year.

Ha, she already knows I've been saving up for something big for quite some time now. ;)

I've got another question: How much do the downloadable things for games usually take up? I'm talking about things such as songs for Guitar Hero, maps for games, or whatever it is that you can download that adds to the game.

I'd buy an Xbox for Cod4
I would NOT buy an Xbox for GTA IV
I'm not saying GTA IV is bad, im just saying its not something id solely buy an Xbox for.
You should get something you are going to use all the time, if you like to game then maybe you should go with it!

Don't prevent her from buying you a 360 Elite dude. The 360 is amazing. There are so many good games and if you get Xbox Live, it makes it even more fun. You get to meet some mad cool people on Xbox Live. Also you can meet some total pricks. But yea, you deffinately get one.

Yeah, I'm not gonna get the Xbox just for GTA IV. There are other games that look interesting, COD4 being one of them. Gears of War and Saint Row look like fun games.

Yeah, that's all fine, but I can still enjoy the 360 without the extremely expensive Elite version. :o

For the love of God please atleast rent or borrow Saints Row before buying it, its just a big GTA rip. Its GTA without the fun. Gears of War is an awesome game, and you probably know GOW2 is coming out in November so thats something else to look forward too. Cod4 is one of those games you can play day in day out and not get bored of, id say its definitely the best game out on the Xbox atm.

If its an option, buy the non elite version of the 360 if it saves money. More money = More stuff = yay

Yup, that's the plan so far!

Thanks for the tip, though. I'll check out reviews for Saints Row and see what other people think of it.

Well, Saints Row is worth a look i guess. My friend has GTA IV & Saints Row and strangely enough, he plays on SR more. So it could just be preference but try before you buy just to be certain! ^____^

Go for the 360 man, it's pretty awesome. There are a lot of cool games for it besides GTA IV too, like Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, The Orange Box, Viva Pinata, and more.

It's not like you can afford a PS3 anyways

I loved saints row until the wiggers/chazs came but besides the chaz/wiggers its a really fun game.

The only thing is the glitches in MP that only happen if a kid starts to stand-by or in gang matches.

Well, you get 13-15GB for the regular 360(20GB HDD). I still say get the 360 elite if you want to not worry about space, and you are going to download a lot of shit. If you want to save money, then ask her to buy the non-elite version.

Personally I would get the Pro and then some extra games but it depends on your personal needs. Def get a 360 because the next system is at least two years away.
