You have to look past the mainstream to find good music. But don't get me wrong - there are 1 or 2 good mainstream songs (my tastes would be Usher's Love in this Club and Chris Brown's Forever). However, most good songs aren't mainstream now.

But then again, you seem to like rock. I know jack shi'ite about it, so I'm guessing that all modern rock sucks (rock from a while ago is good though). The only good rock song I've heard recently is Breaking Benjamin's "Until the End"

Try broadening your musical range past whatever's on the radio. There is a lot of fantastic music being made by extraordinary bands and it's available, it's just that people are too narrow minded to listen to anything that doesn't get name-dropped every five seconds on TV.

Check out Boris's new album, "Smile" for some quality stuff. Also, their albums "Pink" and "Heavy Rock" are awesome as well.

Dropkick Murphys released an album that tops everything they've ever released, apart from maybe Blackout and Sing Loud, Sing Proud last year, Flogging Molly released a solid album well on par with the rest of their work a few months ago, and Stiff Little Fingers have an album in the works, hopefully for release later this year.

I'm sure if you looked at all your favourite albums, they'd be spread out over many years, with only 1 or 2 of them coming out in the same year. Music from the past only seems better because you're looking at all the music from, say 1960 to 1990 as "the past", and the last 5 years as "modern". Of course there's going to be more good music in the first block, there's 6 times more of it.

I was a fan of Scouting For Girls from their demo's. However I feel that their album is directed towards the mainstream. They aren't a band meant for playing at Radio One's Big Weekend to thousands. I have seen them live twice, once at Latitude Festival a year ago and then at a sellout gig in my local "Big" venue about three months ago. They were much, much better at Latitude festival.

Oh and the Wombats are just brilliant. Lovely accapello (sp?) in Tales Of Girls, Boys and Marsupials on their album and Kill The Director is a masterpiece.
