I've redone my site, and I think it looks decent. What do you think?
SITE IS HERE.

Yeah, it still has problems in IE 6... but I'm working on them.

Eh, I don't feel like being productive atm, so I'll gripe for a while.

Who is your target audience? Do you think that the current site design appeals to that target audience?

The entire page is stuck in a little column in the center of the page, even when viewed at 800x600 resolution. Still aiming for those 640x480 users or what?

100% valid XHTML doesn't ensure anything.

Don't use paraenthesis in formal writing--they're nearly never needed. If the parenthesised content can form a complete sentence on its own, then do that. If not, set it off with commas or something else. If it isn't relevant enough to be said outside of the parentheses, don't include it.

I'm not a fan of the 'technical' section idea. Chances are your clients either aren't going to care about what particular terms mean, or they do care and, thus, already know what they mean. You might write a few paragraphs about what you do from a conceptual level, then enumerate how it's done (without tables, XHTML validated, etc) later on for those who are interested. It's not a good idea to make a potential customer read a bunch of technical jargon before they can even begin to understand your 'main' page.

Don't say stuff like "Internet explorer, the one we love to hate". Maybe here, but not in 'the real world'. Most people looking to get a website made from a budget freelancer probably don't know other browsers exist, and even if they do, they may actually like IE. And again--clean code, who cares? No tables? So what? It matters to you and me, but probably not to most clients... and, again, the ones who do care don't need the concepts explained to them.

If you want to offer a garuntee or whatever, fine... but here's how your last paragraph reads: "we make errors, so we'll offer a garantee to make up for it--BUT you better catch our fuck up within 30 days or you're screwed!". Pretty good deal, huh?

I can't visit any of the sites in your portfolio except for gumgames.net (if I manually type in the URL), which is clearly not being actively used by anyone.

So that's my constructive criticism... and here's my opinion: I don't like the site design, and I don't like any of the sites in the portfolio. They're virtually identical and completely unoriginal, and don't seem very professional or business-like (which, imo, can compensate for a lack of originality). I'm sure you saw my huge-ass rant in the reg lounge on this sort of thing. I won't say that it won't work for your potential customers, but I'm completely positive that you could do much better than this. Honestly, how much time did you put into it? It's essentially a handful of links and one or two very simple graphics, and completely unformatted content (unless you count your hyphens...)

Anywho, good luck!

We should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality.

"100% valid XHTML", yet--

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dzine.dzine-online.com%2F
This page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional!
Failed validation, 5 Errors

your technical page is a clear sign that you do not know what you're talking about...
and your order form is unorganized.

the internet is not written in XHTML. websites are written in XHTML. there's a difference.
CSS is not "add-on code" for HTML. they are two seperate languages.

"Used for blogs, forums, and automated news systems. It makes pages dynamic," makes it sound like that PHP is used solely for these jobs. you could've just as well said "per se is powered by PHP."
you also made a typo (mnually)

it's fairly obvious what a blog is... this doesn't even need to be addressed. that brings me to my next point, where things are unexplained and you use terms that the average user (judging by why you created that page) would not understand.

Dance around my totem pole...
An exercise in self-indulgence.

Most stuff is already said but one thing hasn't been mentioned yet. Don't center the form on your order page, that's hideous. Your backgrounds don't match by the way, hurts the eyes a bit.

I was just going to say that. It looks terrible and unprofessional. Also, most people ordering layouts/templates have probably don't know anything about standards so they won't care about the XHTML and cross-browser compatibility so you really don't need to mention that part at all.

I don't think it looks too bad.
Few things of the top of my head (some of them already mentioned above).

Order form looks horrible. It'd put me, as a client, off straight away.
Portfolio is a broken link, again not professional.
Navigation links don't do it for me. The rollover part just looks ugly.

I can't say I really like it. It's too small, too dark, the colors contrast too much, the banner doesn't flow into the background which makes it look strange, the buttons don't really look like proper buttons, the list goes on. For a webdesigners website it is far from good. Check out some current trends.

I think it looks pretty good, although it might be too dark if you're going for a more professional-looking site. However, the form looks awful, and the code is a little shoddy.

<a href="order.php" id="button">Order Now >>></a>

Try using &gt; &gt; &gt; instead of those right brackets

OK... everybody seems to hate the forms, so that's the first thing I'm going to fix. Then, I'm going to focus on making it less of an eyesore...

New design is better, needs more tabs where the home tab is though.
Also, promising cross-browser compatibility and then saying "Best viewed in Firefox or Safari" seems a bit stupid to me.

I wouldn't recomend going for current trends for the sake of it. Get something that looks good and the design will last, designing with a trend in mind just means the site will need to be redesigned in a year or two just to keep up.

On topic,
Shorten the curved tab bit and make it one tab, then make every tab after that with the curve tab. Not sure if you get what I mean but its difficult to describe.

More tabs will be added, the little "best viewed on" thing will be removed, and I'm working on fixing it in IE 6.0.

Well no browser will display it exactly the same as the next. It might be cross-browser compatible but still look better on one browser over the next so I think saying 'Best viewed in...' is acceptable on a personal site.

Plus it helps to spread Ff

Maybe so but if you've worked enough on compatibility issues, the difference in rendering will be minimal enough for their not to be a browser it looks best on, as it'll be only fractionally different across them all.

A more appropriate tag may be "I use..."

Or not say anything and just have a Ff banner neatly placed somewhere on the site (eg. jasongraphix.com).

Even if it doesn't look better in any browser I wouldn't argue if he still left 'Looks better in...' simply for anticipating a problem with some unheard of or new browser. A bit of insurance as it were.

Whoops. Hehe. Thanks for pointing out that little tidbit. I've also gotten rid of the "best viewed in" thing. IE 6.0 renders it perfectly now, thanks to an alternate stylesheet. I'm currently working on the order form, trying to align it without resorting to tables...

OK, I redid the order form in CSS. Now, what about the design itself?

For starters the background doesn't line up with the header image and the greens are 2 different colors so they don't blend together on IE 7. I'm also not crazy about the green and khaki, they don't really seem to go together very well (my opinion).
