For me i have trouble drawing anything at all usually... unless i can see it. Unfortionatly that makes creating a character set never used before tricky. In my attempt to learn i've decompiled several swfs, some of which suprising used alot of bitmap images, and i could recreate a lot of the art. Obviously i'm not going to use it as i need my own. How do i create platformer/side view art that would have me not ripping art from somebody else? How do you draw side view art in general?

The same way you draw a face view, frankly only the 3/4 view can be hard to pull. Tho if you say you cant draw shit without seeing something, just take reference pictures for the body and modify the pictures themselve by adding clothes over the body or whatever is fit to your setting.

what he said. But for me, drawing side views is my best angle, ever since gr 8 ive been srawing side views, alot of them then were stick men killing eachother.

Er... Sorry to be the bone in your tuna, but the art forum rules state that you shouldn't start a topic without a piece of your own original art. You should have posted up an example of your own side-view art for us to see. It's not a big thing, but the art forum community do appreciate it.

Anyway, to parrot what has been said before - make some reference photographs of side-on-heads/bodies. That way, you know what you're aiming for.

Just imagine I wrote something witty and funny here....

for me it seems that getting older is practice itself, every day you see and remember more things. after 19 years of living i can visualize what i want to draw instead of needing a reference. i guess you should just google side views of everything you need untill it sinks in.

Yeah...BTW, it's called a "profile", or something.

I had problems with this too...still do...I find the best thing for me is to constantly keep in mind the "eyes halfway up the head" thing in mind.

This is my sig. It's basically proof of my awesome.

i believe its only called that when pertaining to a head. i still suck at this but my when i see the thing, the vectors come out amazing. the thing is looking at a picture is often difficult to do b/c perfect profile shots are difficult to find. sorry for not posting a picture in the beginning... didn't know rules, will definitely do next time.
