Positives:
- Having access to a forum where the cool kids post more frequently, thereby negating having to wade through the cesspool of posts that can be found in the General forum.
I don't have access to that forum :'(
- E-respect, big e-penis, golden aura, being "special", getting noticed by other users more, etc etc.
Yeah, I feel less loser-y.
- Being invited to mod meetups, being sent free stuff from Tom and the admins etc.
Haven't received any of those things yet...
- Being able to ban someone / take action when you know that they're out of line.
Pft, I'm an Audio Mod. Relatively powerless.
Negatives:
- The responsibility- feeling an obligation to constantly top up your ban list so that you don't look like a slacker. This will inevitably result in people wasting a LOT more time here.
lol i don't need a ban list lol suckers
- Having to "set an example"- not being able to post in the forums like a douche, if the feeling perchance overcomes you.
Yeah, I miss that.
- Not being able to speak up if an admin makes a decision or takes action of which you don't approve.
I guess there's always the private forums/pms
- Having non-modded users constantly suck your cock, just because you're a mod. You are no longer assessed on the value of your posts and your independent contribution.
That one sucks (no pun intended). It gets really awkward at times.
- Having non-modded users abuse you, again, just because you're a mod. "Wow, look at me- I'm defying authority! Man, I'm cool!"
That one sucks as well. :|
In short, it is a balancing exercise. I don't think I have heard of any person who has refused the mod position when it has been offered to them (apart from those who have stepped down voluntarily).
Of course - there's always the initial allure, then it wears off. haha
Nonetheless, if any of you guys are asked to become a mod in the future, I would advise you to weigh up these factors very carefully.
Indeed.
Oh well, I have no plans to step down anytime soon. I'm holding out for the new equipment :)
