Lesbians, as in residents of Lesbos, Greek's 3rd largest island, want people to stop using the word "Lesbian" as a definition for a homosexual woman. They think that they have the geographical right for the word Lesbian, and to use it in a gay context only causes confusion.

All this because of a horny poet who lived on the island some 8,000 years ago.

LOL. I wonder if there are actual lesbians there.
Person 1: " Hey everybody, I have a confession: I'm a lesbian"
Person 2: "Obviously"

It's more confusing when Person 1 is a male.

Wow don't write Sappho off as just a horny poet...
Her works are an important piece of history. She is one of the few extant female ancient sources and she is one of the first lesbians to talk about her sexuality.

There's evidence that Sappho was actually bisexual, or at the very least enjoyed having sex with her husband. They had at least one daughter she mentions by name, if not other children.
Mortified, have you actually read any of her poetry? It's hardly pornographic. Some of it is certainly erotic, but it's mostly sensualism.

lol why not change the name of the island instead of trying to get the entire world conform to their wants. What should we call lesbians if that does happen? Dikes?

Because lesbos came first, you dont see people saying India should change its name because people started calling Native Americans Indians.

I would be honoured, if I lived in such a place that gave birth to Sapphos. They should embrace their Lesbian identity and heritage.

How could they have predicted this? They named themselves Lesbians millenia before the homosexual term lesbian even arose.

There is a biological theory that life starts out as female. Therefore heterosexual males are lesbians as well. :)

Isn't it meaningless to say that life began as female, since female is defined as being the sex-type that provides the basic cellular structure that the new life begins as but not all of the genetic information to build a youth - wouldn't an asexual species just be "no-gender" not female?

Thanks for the over-analysis...
But not all gendered animals have a "Y" (male) chromosome. This give rise to the thought that gender started out as 1) female and 2) determined by the environment rather than genetics. Also, I'm not sure but I don't think the human egg becomes male until later in the cell division process...up until that point we are all female...

Yep, the Y chromosome kicks in only when it's time to develop sex organs, which is pretty late in development. Hence all guys having nipples (unless maybe you were in a fire or something)
I totally agree.

Unless, of course, it was a really bad fire.

No, we are generally male or female at the time the gametes combine. The male gamete is either X or Y, and there is no changing that. Once it hits the egg and fertilizes it, the egg will grow to be a certain gender, provided nothing out of the ordinary occurs.
Here's some information on reproduction, to clear up anyone's doubts:
Sex Chromosomes X-Y
-Gametes from the male are heterogametic
-Gametes from the female are homogametic.
A simple Punnett square shows an equal possibility for a male or a female in reproduction.
XX= female
XY= male
Sex Chromosomes X-O
Examples: grasshoppers, roaches
-Males only have an X chromosome. Their sperm cells contain either an X or no chromosome, designated as O.
-Females have two X chromosomes and produce egg cells with one X chromosome.
If a male fertilizes the egg, the offspring will be XX, or female. If not, the offspring will be XO, or male.
XX=female
XO=male
Sex Chromosomes Z-W
Examples: birds, insects such as butterflies, and some types of fish
-Males have two Z chromosomes.
-Females have a Z chromosome and a W chromosome.
With these, the sex of the offspring can be known before fertilization.
Parthenogenesis
Examples: most wasps, bees, and ants
-No sex chromosomes
-If an egg becomes fertilized, it will develop into a female.
-If an egg does not become fertilized, it will develop into a male.
I believe this is what you spoke of when you said life can start as female. However, until the egg can no longer be fertilized into a female offspring, I would say that it has no sex rather than is female.

The point he was making (I believe) is that while we are developing inside the womb, males develop the same as females up until a certain point.
I totally agree.

No I just find lesbianism a complete waste of talent. Besides, the hot ones usually date manly dykes that probably have more testosterone than a steroid junky. Probably sporting a larger clit than said steroid junkies cocks.
