It's been a while since iv posted here on the BBS, but alas I have a burning question.

How does one make a hit song? I always see the songs on the top 50 with thousands of votes with 4.51

My question is how? What did those artists do to get up on there? How did they manage to connect so successfully with so many people?

How could one such as you or even myself pump out a hit song like them?

mostly by cheating
NG should implement 1 time only voting, that would solve a lot of the problem. & then record the IP

It's popularity.

Once you get popular it does not matter whether your song is good/bad/same as before , you will get alot of downloads/reviews/votes.

Unless you are amazing you will only get one or two hit songs. I have two Zero Level which was featured on NG bytesyze and one of Tom Fulps favorite songs and Syntology which was on the front page. Creative titles, Warbling Wah Wah bassline and or lots of flange were used to create those songs. So you may want to try something like that.

Well..Making good music Is key, Becoming avid in the forum as well...Reviewing lots, It's the same as if it were in real life. You need people to recognize you before they realize your stuff is good. I mean, you could play musics like eddie van halen, but if no one see's it. Whos gonna know it's amazing, that's why the forum does it's best to help under the radar Composers by telling people about there good find. Fonrtpage is merely a bragging right, I'd lvoe to get a front page at somepoint, But I take it as a huge possibility if I dont. And at that point getting that same song BACK on the front page is neaerly impossiblt, as That song just got zero bombed to complete shit.

Best of luck in your aspiration though.

I've always stuck to my theory of just sucking a lot of e-dick, as well as real dick.

I'm Zenon. Stop giving me those weird looks when I have a different name :'(
And I'm submitting music on THIS account now! Check it out instead of on "ZENON" :O

Wait until Thursday. If you have a song with a score of over 4.3, then get all of your buddies to vote 5, and you'll place.

NEW SONG! Check it out:

I just registered here, and two days later I was Best of the Week, then "Best Track Ever" the following week, and #1 in the entire portal for a while. I didnt do anything. So I got 450 reviews out of the blue in just a few days ... and I got to say that was a nice "welcome to AP man". I like it here. It's dropped from 4.67 to 4.47 or something now. Guess someone didnt like it being up there :p

But making a hit song ... I dont know. Just make something you absolutely love yourself, chances are someone else agrees with you. I dont really care. .. making music is just fun!

It was Forever Gamer btw.

you are a failure as a father and a son. I never loved you.

I will personally whore myself out and spam links to my audio to the first person who names that flash XD

--------------------

seriously though, i think the current top 50 chart needs to be real time for it to actually be somewhat agreeable.

is it just me or is it particularly easy for someone with a bunch of friends to get utter crap into the top 50? then its up there for a whole week.

I'm sure if you smack around enough people you can change anything. Look at the American education system.

alas i think the solution to making hit songs that are on top since they are so good is to just relax while your making music. Iv found that when i try to force a hit, i tense up i churn out garbage. When im calm cool and collected, the song makes itself, almost magicly. and its usually good.

1. Have Sonic in it
2. Have Sonic in it
3. Have Sonic in it
4. Tell people it has Sonic in it
5. Submit it to the Genre that is the most lenient and generally allows 5.00's to stay around a while.
6. Did I mention Sonic?

Half of the time it's simply because, the song, is good.

The other half is mass 5 voters.

I know my knowledge of what is good music and bad music is top notch (everybody has that ability), and I've got to say the ratings in the AP dont tell the truth at all. All the really great songs I've found, where you can hear real talent between the instruments - have really bad scores and dont show up on any charts at all.

I KNOW this is because jaleous really ass bad artists get tired of being out-ranked by the really good ones, and does some serious zero-bombing and what not. This is why the AP should have a staff with "pro-reviewers" that award the really good submissions, and ignores the incredible amount of (face it) pure shit thats in here. That way it would be possible to find the good artists and the great tracks without going through all these forgettable score-boosting really bad songs :)

The only really good artist I see doing good in the AP (score and reputation-wise) is ParagonX9.

And my morning-cigarette rant is over :p

Then you really must check out The Underdog List! Its a group of people who find all of the underdogs, aka unpopular but awesome artists, in the portal! There have been 4 lists so far, and many of the artists are just great!

damn i went through and listened to some of those artists and DAMN! they are terrific!

Invariably i wondered why their stuff is not top tier.

==========================
most of their songs have small little things that i think detract from the potential greatness of their songs score indirectly. they have the music already to be in the top 50, from all the crap i hear up there.

the names of the songs seem random and have nothing for the listener to grasp on to. the name of the song sets the entire mood for the listener to be expecting in the song!

there descriptions are either huge chunks of text or 1 sentence descriptions. Listeners read this and this is how the listener connects with the artist. Make it look nice, with lines of ------ and ==== put the title of the song in big bold letters, maybe tell a little about the song, maybe some random facts. thank the listener for listening!

the user can be swayed to vote higher if the description was entertaining and made him feel special.

========================

In the end i think marketing is as big of importance as the actual song in getting to the top. don't wrap your beautiful gold creation in duct tape and brown paper bags.

well.. not ALL - if we find good artists we generally try and rate them up :)

ah but those really good submission songs generally get very few reviews - and thus seem bad at first glance compared to the overbloated giants that stick around on the charts forever and get billions of reviews and that everyone hates because they stick around forever and get like 50000 listens and like 5000 d/ls and rates..

The only really good artist I see doing good in the AP (score and reputation-wise) is ParagonX9.

ya there is a giant bit of history behind that involving the portal raising a dead horse on a pedestal for a few years for everyone to worship and adore a man that essentially left ngs as soon as he got up there.

And my morning-cigarette rant is over :p
