Today in science class, we were testing the conductivity of metals.

We were testing lots of different metals, when we had to test steel wool. See, I had 3 batteries all hooked up for triple the power, I was just about to connect it to the steel wool when the teacher said to only use one, as it would light the steel wool on fire.

So I used one, I grab it, put the 2 alligator clips on it and it lit up, sparks were flying everywhere and it was on fire, it was sort of like a firework. It was above my school books and could have easily lit it on fire, not to mention burn my hand. So quickly, before the flame reached the part that wasn't lit yet, I grabbed it, took off one clip thinking that it would just tear off of the other, and pulled it off. It just stretched, It was like a little fireball sparking and flaming like mad, stretched out into a flaming horizon in mid-air.

I ripped it in half and threw it into the sink, then I had to worry the other half, It had already started to burn a piece of paper which I quickly blew out before it could get bigger and took the other side of the flaming steel wool and put it into the sink. It was all put out.

Everyone was just staring at me and so was the teacher. People we're all like "HOLY SHIT" and I was like "Phew...". Luckily, I didn't get into any trouble because I did what the teacher said to do, and that was to use one battery and I didn't get burned.

If you don't know what steel wool burns like, well have a look at this.

Umm... Doesn't anyone know anything around here? That effect can only be achieved by using at least a whole packet of steel wool which has been weighted down and then attached to string. The effect that was in the class room would have been utterly mediocre. I'm guessing only a small portion of steel wool was used, and even then all it does is glow (but it is hot). Seriously, what grade are you in? 7?

I remember getting booted out of science class for making fire.

We had to do something like dry out a piece of paper with a flame... I forget why... but mine flashed up real quick, so I grabbed the flaming paper and got it into the sink fast. The teacher apparently was not amused and I guess assumed I did it on purpose or something.

I don't think I got in any serious trouble.

One kid in my school did get expelled for lighting some girl's hair on fire (so the rumours go).

A kid on my bus lit another kid's hair on fire. The principal came on and was raging pissed.

Haha, a nine volt battery and some steel wool makes a nice fire starter, never tried it with anything powerful though...
