Hey, I never really understood that quote "He who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" -Dr. Johnson
So just wondering, what does it mean in your eyes? Discuss.

Inhumane actions that desensitize you to everything, et voila
You succumb to your baser instincts so you don't have worry about emotion.
It relates to the hit book series and following TV show "Animorphs", the characters would often escape their own existance to become a beast to bury their teenage angst (or pain).
Moving your mindset to one of a simpler creature (i.e. the Beast) stops all the woes of being fully sentient (bad feelings concerning love, justice, guilt, relationships, prestige, reputation, etc.)
A wordier way of saying 'ignorance is bliss', albeit applied to a more specific theme.
Hehe so a simply way to say it would be "Going Berserk?"
Thinking of it, it's just like Anonymous and what they do. A normal human would be shocked and offended beyond belief at some of the actions of Anonymous, because he is still a man. But the practices of Anonymous, bestial though they may seem, remove human emotions other than that quality known as "lulz" from the equation, allowing Anon to perform his trolling duties without feeling emotions for his target.
It means that if you inject yourself with animal DNA, you gain an extreme tolerance for pain.

Seems more appropriate.
What was that one play about the man who was seen as a gorilla by society, and finds himself in the cage at the zoo with the gorilla at the end, and the gorilla strangles him?

HARD
NEVER FORGET
I am not familiar with this Dr. Johnson....
Did he deliver that quote in a book? speech?
The connotation of beast is commonly used to denote 'wild instinct'
But at the same time it is a bit contradictory, because pain is one of man's most primitive sensory's - long before emotion was ever crafted
HD
I somewhat understand it as a "go crazy" form or something.
wut
It's a shift of responsibility. Identify yourself as a beast, and you no longer need to uphold yourself to human values.
I'd say it's a hyperbole. What do you avoid under the doctrine of your identity?

You throw away all responsability and moral and just live without looking back, simple.
