I just got my 360 and i'm so scared that it might overheat or kill my games or something...

Is it any chance of the games getting all scratched up or the 360 dying if i play too long?

If it is, how long is the longest i should play without a break?

I'm so scared now that i have a 15min break every hour, but i don't hope it's necessary...

lol ^^

As long as the air ports are not covered you shouldent have any problems with over heating. I normally take a break after about two maybe three hours and have never had a heating problem. The console is better standing up as more air can can circulate.

Haha, you're way too paranoid.

Just keep it well ventilated + horizontal and you'll be fine.

Dude, it's a games console, not a newborn baby. Play it and enjoy it, just use your common sense and don't do any of the things they say causes overheating like putting it on a carpet, keeping it in a crappily ventilated area or playing it for like 7 hours with no breaks. To be honest if you play that long, the 360 overheating might be a nice break for you

I've been told to have it laying down cause i've been told that if i have it standing a small bumb into it would probably kill the game inside..

My friends assassin's creed game is screwed.. he thinks it was that..
Also i saw some posts about it somewhere...

My bro's xbox got the two red rings (not 3) which apparently means its overheating, but he just opened the windows and it worked for a while and then he got the xbox360 fan thing which you stick on the side, and it hasn't done it since. But he had had it for over a year before it did that. Should be no problems.

my 360 sits next a wall, with a pc next to it, on for about 9 hours a day, for about 2years and has never overheated. i just have to be lucky with the one you get. do what you want with it and keep the reseat. if it breaks take it back and get a new one and try again.

It's just a game.

Yeah, I've been concerned about this as well.
I have a semi-small area to house my 360 (got it today). The space is about wide enough for two 360 consoles to lay horizontally together (but is not tall enough to stand vertically).

Inhabiting the space right now is my Xbox, Wii, and a ton of games. Should I remove the Wii and other games to give the 360 more room before moving it in?

Also, I just measured it, it's a little under 11 inches high and about 25 inches wide.

I'm not entirely sure if the overheating stuff is true, but I'm always a person to be on the safe side, so I take at least a half an hour break after two hours of playing, but sooner is better. At least, I did, but with the intercooler I can play as long as I want. I'd reccommend purchasing it.

NEVAR FORGET.

Why would they make a game console for serious gamers with the best games for you to have to take breaks every hour? Make sure there is good air flow and your ok. It's not fragile for horizontal or vertical so set it how you want.

1. Keep it upright, it will get overheated quick if it is horizontal.
2.Dont put it in a small space.
3. If playing a game, and you knock over console, your CD will get fucked up.

LOL, Thats not where Cheese goes, you silly.

by a fan for it, but NEVER EVER buy an intercooler. my friend told me they ruin the system.
if you buy a fan the rrod (red rings of death) are not as likely.

like my new xbox 360?

360 any chance of overheating or?

I always keep my system vertical, and on a few occasions, I've played upwards of 3 hours without stopping. I have never had to send in my system, I've never gotten the RRoD, and I've only gotten the overheat sign once (damn you, Oblivion!).

And yet, better safe than sorry, but don't get too crazy about it, especially if it's hampering your gameplay experience. The claims are exaggerated. Keep it well-ventilated at least, and it's probably a good idea to keep the system horizontal, if only to stop console tippage.

My console has was constantly running for two weeks at one time, and in the two years I've had it I haven't had a single problem.

Keep the console horizontal. The holes in the side that were previously covered because the console was vertical should help air the inside.

Like almost every console, there is a chance that it will overheat! I had a friend who had a PS2 but it broke due to overheating! Limit your playtime! I suggest 2-3 hours at a time!

not to show off,but i play my 360 semi-pro (ex-pro) gamer and i have to say i keep my xbox laying down, and the crap about the intercooler? idk i have one and it works fine. i never broke a game with it laying down and im mostly on my xbox about 3-7 hours a day, so .. idk but keep it laying down and i herd that some computer fans work better on making it not over heat so..all up to your, and you can always send it back to Microsoft to get a new one, just have fun playing socom on the ps2 like i did. lol

As long as you make sure the air vents are unblocked and you don't leave the system on for hours on end, you shouldn't worry about getting the Ring.

No, that's bullshit. This only happens when you move the console while the disk is spinning.

or the 360 dying if i play too long?

Depends where you keep it. Give it space to "breathe". After all, the 360 is like a gaming PC in the sense that you souldn't put it in some dusty corner.

Keep it horizontal and in a well-ventilated place and you'll be fine. I play mine for 2-3 hours a day and have never had problems with RRoD or overheating.

But it did go on a rampage and damaged several games rendering them unplayable (including GTA IV) but thats a once-off freak accident. I sent it off.

Get the Elite if anything. Best looking one by far and it's fixed a lot of the over heating issues. Not to say it's perfect, I've had it over heat once or twice but after letting it breath for just a few minutes it seemed to run just fine.

Always turn it off at night also. It's not like a PS2 where you can leave it running for a month and expect no harm to the console.
